“We love a good roast! We were recommended via Facebook to try this place by several people. It’s a traditional English pub… decor a bit dated but it has a nice feel and lovely service. I ordered the pork and everything was exactly what I wanted… lots of gravy, good veg and well cooked with apple sauce. My girlfriend ordered beef which was a bit over cooked for are liking but still nice nonetheless… I’d recommend the pork. We haven’t tried the chicken.”

“Food, service and ambience are lovely but the standard of guest rooms is not of the same level. Room 4 is small, and the en suite is poor, shower cubicle is miniscule and you need to be a contortionist to open and close the window! No double glazing and the room door is so poorly fitting you can hear everything in the hall way.The food is of a high quality and plenty of it. Staff are lovely and friendly. The decor and furniture of the pub and dining room is superb. Just need to do the same for the rooms.”

“Tommy Banks is a genius and he must be incredibly proud of his staff team. We stayed overnight at the Black Swan and enjoyed the taster menu and wine package. Wow! Everything and more! Food sensational, wine pairing superb and the champagne cocktails amazing. This experience was for a birthday celebration and from the moment we arrived to when we left the next morning nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Each member of staff we met were friendly, polite and professional. We were struck by the idyllic location, our room which was perfect and particularly the restaurant. Rustic, unpretentious with the emphasis on the diners being relaxed and comfortable. Yet, when we looked around what seemed to be understated clearly wasn’t. The attention to detail was astounding. Genius! Our experience has left us with a fabulous memory to be treasured and hopefully we will visit again in the future. A huge thank you to Tommy Banks and his team for making this birthday celebration so memorable.”

“A true East Yorkshire hidden GEM. I was doing a walk and we stopped in the village, we had pre ordered our food, but this did not take anything away from the quality of the service. We were welcomed on our entry by very attentive staff, who asked how the walk had been and answered every question asked by the group. The range of beers was good and reasonably priced. I had the Veltins and it was really nice. The food came out on good time after our arrival, I had a pie, chicken ham and leek and it was served with chips and the most delicious gravy, that given the chance I would have drank it. The pastry around the pie was beautiful and the entire meal was really really nice, all the food that came out was good. The pudding menu has a broad selection on that all sounded nice.I will go back and take the family there as it was that good”

“A lovely hotel in probably the finest location in York. Attentive professional staff. The only criticism would be the breakfast, warm your plates and buy better black pudding or don't leave it under the lamp to go hard. Otherwise a perfect stay. Would definitely stay again.”

“We cannot recommend Steve Tarran enough at the Clifton Moor store, he really knows how to be a salesman, delivering all the information we needed but also reading when we wanted time alone to decide and look around. He was very knowledgeable and listened to what we wanted. Thanks so much!”

“Love everything about this shop in terms of products, value for money and shop floor staff. However a couldn’t give 5 stars due to the staff in the coffee shop. Everything was far too much trouble, no smiles, zero customer service. Maybe we cought them on a bad day ?”

“This is a lovely hotel in a great location for visiting various parts of Yorkshire. It’s comfortable, clean and unpretentious. Our room was comfortable rather than plush, but it was quiet and nicely equipped with everything you might need. The staff, without exception, were delightful and the restaurant was excellent. We had breakfast as part of our deal and it was very good indeed, with a wide range of options and everything in plentiful supply. We chose to eat in the restaurant for dinner on both nights - prices were reasonable and quality was excellent.Definitely somewhere to seriously consider returning to.”

“Good value hotel with on-site parking. Parking spaces are limited, but they have overspill parking around the corner.Staff are really friendly, everywhere is clean and tidy. The breakfast buffet is very good value, okay then quality isn't amazing but it's cheap, and even caters for vegans! It's a short, easy walk into town.Food & drinks: Vegan options on the menu”

“Delicious Sunday lunch. I had roast beef and it was cooked to perfection. Homemade Yorkshire puddings were great, I ordered a jug of gravy as some of our plates were very light on gravy. This came immediately and was no trouble. The wine glasses were extremely thick not enjoyable to drink wine from, I would recommend these are replaced to enhance the experience as they do not match the quality of the food or menu. Service was not as attentive as you would have expected, but will return and highly recommend.”

“Great two night stay at The Black Swan. Nice garden where you can sit and have a drink before dinner. Location was good with plenty of places to stop for a drink. Good location whereby there are things to do for a couple of days without needing to use the car.”

“After a terrible experience waiting 3 months for our order (to still not be delivered) and constantly given wrong information over and over from the customer service team (not in store) we returned back to the york store and spoke to Sam. Within 24 hours Sam had our issues sorted and a delivery date booked for 5 days later. 0 stars to the customer service received on the phone but 5 stars to the York store for helping us get it sorted.”

“Location ok if you want to visit York but want a cheaper option, however access is a bit of bind coming Westbound from York.More of the problem was the absence of anyone at reception on arrival (the freephone number left to call didn't work but fortunately the one in the email did) and the cleanliness of the bathrooms - hairs from previous occupants.More generally, I think it's ridiculous charging £3 for WiFi >30 miniutes.”

“Well located and an easy walk into the centre as well as the train station. The staff I encountered were all helpful and friendly as I always find with any Travelodge I stay in.I booked a Super Room this time because it was all that was available and I was quite happy with it. I did have to look up how to use the posh coffee machine as I'd never used one before!Supplies were topped up in the morning, including a fresh set of towels, which I wasn't expecting, so that was a nice surprise. The only issue I had was the size of the radiator was far too small for a room of that size and my room was rather cold. A quick visit to reception sorted that however as I was handed a spare plug in radiator without quibble and that did the job, leaving my room nice and warm.I'd be very happy to stay there again.Walkability: Both the train station and centre are within very easy walking distance. The Castle Museum is about 10-15 minutes away at most for example.”

“Lovely central clean hotel staff lovely but extremely disappointed inwifi as only half hour free then £3 for 24hrs which in scheme of things isn't too bad but if you're only in your room to sleep as out being a tourist then not good at all I've not stayed in any hotel for years that charge for WiFi so on that note would not stay again”

“A great 3 night stay at Premier Inn!This hotel was no exception to the friendly staff that work in Premier Inn hotels, and it came with a restaurant that had all the food you need for breakfast and dinner! Overall an excellent stay! Hoping to come again!Food & drinks: You may know that all Premier Inns come with some sort of restaurant. This hotel is no exception! With great food and quick service for dinner, and excellent breakfast self-service, you couldn’t ask for more!”
