“Super convenient location just off Mermaid street in the heart of Rye. Lovely rooms and a hearty full English breakfast's served in this beautiful historic hotel. Loved our stay here. The staff were helpful and friendly.”
“Excellent food.. Had the steak and half a pint of prawns. Really good. Staff were super pleasant and friendly will visit again. Right next to a car park as well. Happy days!”
“Very friendly staff in the well located pub near the beach. The food was great , they were kind to my dog and did everything with a smile. Makes a very pleasant change. We will return.”
“Stupendous experience hand on heart from the moment entering this historic establishment... Having met Beth who works the hotel and customer service and bar, showed us the room(s) and they are gorgeous, so clean, fresh and incredible...
We were graced to have met Kim, the owner who shared the fine history of her grand Oasts, from its early days of drying out Hops for making beer, to what it is today, a beautiful hotel and pub...
I have to say, from meeting these two ladies and having the delightful conversation on this establishment and their remarkable friendly manners, they even directed us to the town of Rye and what it has to offer. We highly recommend you to visit this hotel and explore the hospitality we (Richie and I) had ... Overall- Superb”
“My wife and I stayed for two nights this week. Staff very friendly and extremely helpful. Went out of their way to help us. Food delicious. Service a little slow but food well worth the wait! The hotel was very busy. Lots of steps in hotel so not accessible for everyone. We are over 65 but we coped with stairs. Ideal location in centre of high street. Automatic computer access at hotel so very convenient. We will definitely stay again. Not everything written down in room but if in doubt just ask the reception staff. We had s TV control that didn't work and they came up, checked it and then replaced it. Cannot compliment the staff highly enough.Rooms: Lovely double room with brilliant shower. We looked out over front of hotel but surprisingly quiet. We both slept soundly both nights. Steps and stairs up to room so you get fit if you weren't before! Tea, coffee, hairdryer, all provided.Nearby activities: Market on Thursday a couple of minutes walk from hotel towards the train station. Lots to see nearby, river, churches, castle and great views.Safety: Take care in town and in hotel. Lots of steps and slopes but if you are careful you should be fine.Walkability: Lots of steps and stairs buy we are in our late 60's and coped fine. The town is up and down as well so great for fitness!Food & drinks: Bar quite expensive as you would expect on a quality hotel. Lots of pubs, restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance.”
“The Mermaid Inn is such a charming hotel with a unique vibe! The staff is generally friendly and professional, and the hospitality is top-notch! The hotel and our bedroom were spotless, thanks to the amazing housekeeping! But there are issues . Parking; be prepared to try and squeeze in the limited number of tight car parking spaces, due to the age and location of the building, or like us park in a local car park at an amazing rate of £3 per day, only a 5 minute walk away. Room 25 is situated near the kitchen extractor fan system. Upon arrival, a noticeable fried fish odour was present. Additionally, a low-frequency hum emanates from approximately 6:30 am to 10 pm which is highly irritating and detracts from relaxation, which woke my wife each morning. The cooked breakfast is stunning, first class ingredients cooked to perfection. The continental is extremely lacking and not great quality. Bar food, the fish and chips were great! But the mushy peas were a bit of a letdown—they were more like mashed garden peas with butter. My wife’s main course was a watermelon, strawberry, and feta salad, which was a bit of a mixed bag, you know? It felt like it was trying to be both a starter and a dessert, not quite hitting the mark as a main course. Maybe it would have been better served at breakfast! Basically, it was a bit of fruit floating around in pomegranate syrup. Plus, there were only about six or seven tiny feta cubes, and instead of salad leaves, there were just a few micro basil leaves sprinkled on top. A very over priced dish missing the mark!”
