“Dear Tesco, For many years I have been a loyal customer. I have stayed with Tesco through the recent invasion of cut price German supermarkets, and I have never been seduced by the siren call of the Waitrose down the end of my road. I had a brief affair with Morrisons a few years ago but I came crawling back, and I had thought that you’d forgiven me. However this evening, for the first time, I was left unsatisfied by what you had to offer and I was left wondering whether you had fallen out with me. I have long been a devotee of your “classic multipack dip selection” even if, like many, I secretly took more than my fair share of the cheese one. It was with a heavy heart then that I made a terrifying discovery this evening. I dipped my Tesco Finest, lightly salted, hand cooked crisp into the cheesy dip only to discover that the flavour had changed. Whatever it tasted of, it wasn’t cheese. I tried the spicy Mayo, and the story was the same. With each dip the flavours were more and more disappointing. I first wondered if I had Covid, but a check online confirmed my first fears. You’ve changed the recipe! Why, Tesco? Why? Why would you take this from me? As I embark on a process of grieving for that cheesy dip I used to love, for the first time I’m starting to wonder if Waitrose will satisfy me more. I also know that Aldi is coming to town, and is known for stealing your once loyal customers wherever it goes. Don’t let our relationship end here, Tesco. I still love your reasonably priced charcuterie selections, and you do some of the best Christmas sandwiches going.
