A very pleasant place. Friendly service. The fish and chips are fresh and delicious. It's worth spending a few moments in a queue. Besides, the queue is the best advert for that place.

Today, August 9th 2025, I stopped by The Mermaid Fish Bar in Barmouth for some classic fish and chips, but left quite disappointed.
The chips were over-fried, woody, and overly greasy, and the same went for the fish?the batter was soaked in oil, and my portion felt more like a mound of dough than actual fish, with the cod being surprisingly small.
It?s all a matter of taste, of course, but this didn?t hit the spot for me; I couldn?t even finish the meal, which is rare.
Shame, as the location by the sea is lovely!
Hoping for better luck next time.

Been coming to Barmouth many times first time trying the mermaid from the positive reviews online long cues outside don?t really know what the hype was all about
fish was ok but the chips were not the best
where was the potato in the chips ?looks like I got the scraps.
Prices are reasonable and the curry sauce was nice very mixed views on the whole experience also with the place being busy it would have been nice not to be interrupted while I was trying to give my order over the counter and then me asking if she was ready to complete my order.
Next time I?m In Barmouth might give a second chance but will have to see

Busy chip shop however the fish and chips was delicious. Just what we needed after a fun day at the beach. The spicy curry sauce was elite too.

Was walking past on a Sunday heading to another chippie as their website says they are closed on Sundays, but happy to find them open, albeit with a long queue outside. Probably waited around 30 mins in the queue, but it was well worth the wait. Once we had ordered, it was very quick to get the food.
The fish was quite big and crispy, plenty of chips, but not too many that you couldn't finish them. Chips were crispy as well.
Overall, very enjoyable meal. Enough food to fill you up but not too much, and at a very reasonable price (about £10 I think). We took it down to the beachfront to eat. There are a few tables inside, but it is quite loud in there, and very busy with the queue constantly moving, so I wouldn't want to stay in there to eat, especially with the beach being so close.

The food slops I ain't gonna lie it's beautiful. The chips were amazing, the curry sauce was okay and the battered sausage was okay-ish but it was depressingly small. Probably compensating for somethin but as a middle aged black man I can really appreciate a sausage so it was awesome definitely coming here again

My family and I have frequented Barmouth on several occasions now. Each time popping into The Mermaid fish and chips establishment. In my estimation, their food is of the highest order, their service is professional and friendly. I have no qualms whatsoever in recommending them to anyone who wishes to fill their gob with fishy delight. Super!

Visited here a few times. The food was fresh and hot. Fish and chips are really nice. Portions are small. Also, can get very busy.

Excellent fish n chips everytime we have been. Just beware there will be a queue, but of course that tells you it's good too.
