We were there with 8 other friends and had a fantastic weekend. We were well looked after by the owners. We all said wow what a great place to stay. The beach is close and had a lovely walk into town.

Amazing place to stay! (It's currently listed to rent as 'Thornemead Castle'.) Every part of it is stunning and so comfortable it's difficult to leave! However, there are lots of activities locally, including a 10 minute walk to get to Uphill Beach. Loved it!

The rooms were comfortable, clean and very quiet. Unfortunately they were also shabby and rather neglected. The owners are currently focused on another aspect of their business in another part of town. As a result the rooms were not serviced at any point in our 3 night stay. There was only one hair-dryer between the two rooms that we booked. Photographs on the internet do not reflect the true condition of the property... there are better places to spend your 99 pounds per night.

My partner and I stayed 4 1 night, pleasant little place, rooms on the small side. You need to ring b4 arrival so someone can check you in, pleasant staff and nice area...OK if ur not staying long, one thing we did notice is there was no written information in the room of there other restaurants or surrounding things to do. Also no breakfast was available.

Beautiful property near the coast that offers an unforgettable experience to visitors. You will have full use of this country manor from the early 1800s, in an environment full of character. Every detail is carefully arranged and there are many things to do, from enjoying the snooker table in the billiard room, sitting down to read in the library or relax in the study. The dining room offers a very spacious table to enjoy food that you can cook on the great outdoors gas barbeque. The bedrooms are spacious and the games room offers a foosball table, board games, and a large screen TV. A few additional touches make the experience unique, like the fresh eggs or strawberries from the grounds, the freshly baked bread, or the hamper you will find in the kitchen. Overall a fantastic experience.

I recently stayed two nights at the Up Hill hotel , in terms of location it was great but in terms of service all I can say its far from Poor! Firstly, the rooms were not made for two nights and the reason I was given was the cleaner was unwell - appreciate that but its hardly, my problem when I have paid to stay there. Secondly you cannot contact anyone in evenings or mornings before 11am as no one picks up the phone and we were left with no toilet rolls in the bathrooms for both days so had two buy our own and when you have paid £400 for two rooms you should never have to do this . It might seem small but its not when you are left with no one to speak to or ask and then have to stay with no amenities and dirty rooms! I would never stay there again!

Our stay at Rooms at Uphill was good. On our arrival it was not clear how to check in as there is no reception, however a staff member helped us out and got us checked in and showed us to our room. There was not that much direction other then the staff member showing us where our room was and no information on how to check out or get anymore toiletries for example. Luckily there were staff downstairs at the restaurant at the time to help but if we needed anything out of hours then there would have been no staff on to help us. After the restaurant closes the building is quiet and you can have a good sleep. The restaurant does not open until the evening so there is no noise in the morning. Overall it was a good stay but had no idea how to check out so we placed the room key on a table and left. Maybe a bit more direction from staff would help us understand how they would like us to check out. Happy stay and would stay there again.

Advertised as carpeted, only a small rug either side of the bed. Was still looking for the DVD player by the time we left. No hair dryer as advertised, had to go to Supermarket to buy one ( cost added therefore to our overnight stay). 2 extra pillows in wardrobe had no pillowcases on them and badly stained so could not put them on the bed. Fire instructions on shelf in wardrobe under pillows, should they not be displayed. One toilet roll in ensuite, empty cardboard still in roll holder. Mark on wall behind chair. We were is room 2, needed to open window but from the time the restaurant opened until it closed we had the noise of the extractor fan from the kitchen downstairs and the smell of the cooking coming into room. If you book make sure you do not get room 2. Good location for beach but overall glad we did not book for 2 nights as originally planned. Will not book again.

I stayed here over Halloween weekend 2009 and it certainly was a great place for the occasion! The rooms are massive and the decor is traditional but very fitting considering the architecture. The staff were very friendly, and did their up most to help in every way. High recommended.
