Staff always warm and welcoming, always serves a good pint, lots of outside space for the warmer weather hopefully arriving soon. Winter nights are always warm and cosy too. Love the pub. T

When visiting my daughter from Scotland I thoroughly enjoy popping in for drinks every time. The staff are so welcoming and went out their way to accommodate us.

I recently met some girlfriends for dinner and although the food was nice, I was very disappointed with the selection. Out of the 10-12 main courses shown on the menu, on 4 or 5 were available to order, and the restaurant was out of various drinks and odd things like mayonnaise (no mayo in the entire premises, not just on our table). We ordered on the app so only saw staff when they brought our food and drinks only - they were polite and professional. It was a Friday early evening (table booked for 5pm) but very loud so had to shout over other table noise in order to speak with friends - this was slightly disappointing too as upstairs was completely empty!

Have ummed and aaahed over this review but decided it best to point out so you can move forward and hopefully rectify for future. (Rating purely on food only as they are super friendly and accommodating in here- especially with dogs). I ordered a mushrooms on sourdough brunch at £7.95 and was gutted when it was delivered. The one piece of toast was so thin and underdone it was soggy, and was topped with a thin layer of tarragon sauce with barely 5 or 6 minuscule pieces of mushroom mixed in. - Barely a whole mushroom in the dish. A generous handful of watercress was on top- but I feel it only came to hide the plates meagreness. So sadly very disappointed and not sure we?ll eat here again as we just can?t afford to pay prices like that right now for such poor quality and helpings. I am so sorry because the dogs love it here!

Pub food but boutique-ish presentation and portions.I opted for the steak and tangle foot pie, which was great. The cabbage was lovely and the mash was good.The only disappointment was the portion could have been slightly bigger for the mash and cabbage.The atmosphere was good and the place was full.We went on a Tuesday and it seems this is the weekly bingo night and a lot of the tables were booked from 7pm onwards, so keep this in mind.

We made our first visit yesterday for drinks and food, and were amazed by the quality of service and food. Nothing was too much trouble and the person who originally helped us had his coat on ready to go home, but stayed on for quite some while (with his coat off!) to ensure that we were looked after. We later discovered that he was the GM - obviously he sets the tone for the whole place. Food was lovely too and we'll definitely go back!

We ordered lots of small tapas dishes. That said the food wasn't great. Chicken wings all bones. The cheese straws were undercooked puff pastry sprinkled with herbs and hardy any cheese or flavour. Awful really. Cheese straws should be like brandy snaps but made of Parmesan cheese. The extra chips we ordered were chewy & cold. And the deep fried scotch egg was overcooked. All in all not a great first time experience. Pay before you eat so we just eat what little we could & left.

I was really looking forward to eating here - i had done the unthinkable and walked along until I liked the look of somewhere rather than looking at reviews! It's a really inviting looking place but once inside i just wasn't overly enamoured. The table that we chose to sit at wasn't clean and on closer inspection looked like it hadn't had had a really good clen in a while - I am aware that I'm picky but the grooves in wooden tables should be cleaned regularly. I chose the nduja chicken while my husband chose the fish & chips. The fish & chips were okay - nothing to write home about (and he's sampled a fair few)! and the side of onion rings were just slightly disappointing. My chicken turned out to be on the bone (which wasn't mentioned on the menu) and i'm not a fan of meat on the bone so would have appreciated that information. The chicken was dry in places and over done in others and was really bland. the chips were really good but the salad on the side was nearly as warm as the rest of the food and a good portion of it was wilted. Our server was really nice & friendly as was the bar staff but the service was really quite slow. I really hate writing a bad review and I didn't have massive complaints as such but I definitely wouldn't eat there again.

The food was good, however don't expect to get your first choice. Starter of scotch egg not available, Sunday roast same, cheese board same, after dinner coffee also not available as machine was being cleaned. Very disappointing at point of ordering.

We brought our 13 wk old puppy in today, to ease him into dog friendly places in Portishead!! Great decision, staff and even the customers were very welcoming to our pup! A special thank you to Marcus! He made us feel very welcome! :)

It was Saturday evening we'd been around the nature reserve and then marina for a walk, there was a chill in the air and we were ravenous! We went into a few places but no available seats, we were about to leave to get a takeaway for home but decided to just try H&W and were pleasantly surprised to find an available table for 2 in a cosy corner. We immediately ordered their porkbelly special on the recommendation of our waiter, and it didn't disappoint...the portions were huge (thankfully, as my partner and I were starving by this point) and delicious.I have been there before for a Sunday roast, and it was ace. It's definitely a great option if you're looking for yummy pub grub.Vegetarian options: There are at least 2 good veggie options under each section of the menu.Parking: There are a few free spaces right outside but it's not hard to find on street parking in the evenings or on a Sunday.

Sorry to write this as the server that helped us was really accommodating, but the food was a disappointment.Limp salad, bland roasts, tough meat, rare but tough unable to cut. We had already paid before the food arrived, a member of our party complained about the food but the server said there wasn?t much they could do. We were there for a birthday meal and it was disappointing to say the least. Won?t be returning as it?s the 2nd bad experience.

Less than satisfactory food - chicken salad unimpressive. Avocado cold toast and hard egg. Just so so - unlikely to go back for a long while. Pity!

An excellent quality breakfast in a lovely setting. The staff were very warm and friendly. Literally service with a smile.
