When I lived in England I used to always visit this market when visiting Bath. Why? For the architecture and quirky shops. For example...I used to buy from the secondhand bookstore there for the lastest block busters. It's nice to see this is still going strong.

According to a sign inside, while some form of a market in Bath had been around since 1371, the Guildhall was built in 1776 and "the market was arranged around it. All kind of things could be bought and in 1818 there was an astonishing 438 stalls... although the market then declined a new purpose built indoor market was erected in 1861. Its elegant cast iron and glass structure was innovative and attractive and for the last 100 years around thirty stalls have been housed here." Wow, right? So what you can you find here now?... - The Bath Humbug Shop (a sweets shop with chocolate confections to pick and mix options) - Guildhall Market Pet Supplies (with a huge array of treats, toys, and accessories) - Bath Leather Goods (you can buy goods, get made-to-order items, and have repairs done) (There's also a party shop, a hardware store, a textiles shop, a cheese stall, jewelry, a book seller [my mom loved this little spot], and more!) But my favorite?... The Guildhall Delicatessen - this spot has every quintessential British food you could want (with both vegetarian and vegan options) like sausage rolls and Scotch eggs, pasties, sweet treats like treacle tarts and brownies, and a variety of olives, sandwiches and more. Love, love, love this spot. Definitely worth walking through and exploring!

A hodge-podge of non sequitur retail stalls makes Guildhall Market a somewhat waste of perfectly prime real estate. I see an American-themed cafe featuring cardboard cut-outs of random celebs abutting two hardware and sundry shops, a shop specializing in international flags, a lone deli on the main thoroughfare and some obscure sandwich joint from afar. So random.

This is a fantastic market place within a huge building that begs to be explored. Entering through the main tunnel at the front, you're hit by the range of coloured material on display, then by the smells of the deli that is the first thing you come to once properly inside - I recommend the spinach and ricotta lattice from here, which is damn delicious. Straight opposite this is one of the best places to pick up books - a second hand store that stocks a surprising amount of titles at ridiculously low prices. Walking round further, you'll find cafes, joke shops, electrical suppliers, sewing shops and so much more. For any craft or homely thing you can think of, this place has it covered.

This indoor market in the centre of Bath may be small but it certainly packs a lot in. Here you'll find food, drink, jewellery, fashion, accessories and pets! I can easily waste an hour just strolling around the stools and enjoying the friendly, bustling vibe. My favourite stools here are Not Cartiers and The Humbug Shop which indulge my loves of buying something and sweet.
