Lovely hotel which is a bit dated but perfectly nice. Our room was very clean and completely adequate for our nights stay with the dog. Bar meals are good as is breakfast. The staff are all lovely but Laura deserves an extra special mention. She?s a superstar. Nothing was too trouble and she went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible!!

Excellent rooms and fabulous service. Staff very friendly and food amazing. Bar prices very reasonable and rooms large and clean. We were booked into the sister hotel which was sadly closed due to damage, the hotel manager recognised the inconvenience caused and couldn't do enough to make up for the very slight inconvenience caused.

We were originally booked for Mansfield Castle and got switched to this location at the last minute due to renovations being done. When I look at the reviews, it appears this has been happening since November of 2022 so it seems odd to me. Reception was wonderful, and she stayed for us to arrive at almost 10:30 at night, so that was very nice. I did feel like I was always imposing on them, however. The place is sadly dated, and there was no housekeeping so that was a little sad while being away on holiday. Not worth the money. The restaurant was alright, nothing to write home about, and it was expensive. The breakfast was subpar at best. The eggs were like rubber. Finally, water the plants around the entrance, it's so sad to see things just wilting away due to lack of maintenance, it's not like it was super busy.

Originally we had booked their sister hotel, but was advised a few days before starting our road trip it was to be closed for maintenance. The Morangie was a poor second, needs a good refurbishment and a least a lick of paint in the hotel reception, the restaurant was more cafe than fine dining. We were upgraded to a room with a four poster bed and a spa bath. Although the room was comfortable it had no wow atmosphere to it. The food we had in the restaurant was average and the staff were friendly. Would not be rushing back to this hotel

Prior to booking, we telephoned hotel to confirm it was Dog Friendly as stated on web. We were clearly informed they welcomed dogs, who were allowed in all areas including the Bar. We booked on this basis as we specifically look for accommodation that allows dogs. Having to negotiate a pot holed driveway on arrival was an unwelcome surprise. The welcome we received in Reception was very poor, as this dog friendly hotel clearly did not welcome the dog. We were even asked if we planned for the dog to stay. Finally after a protracted tedious length of time, during which they telephoned to find out if we could have the room we had booked, they grudgingly allowed us to check in. During this debacle we were told we could not have dog in restaurant but he would be allowed with no need to book a table in the Bar. Access to room 6 was up a thread bare carpeted stairway. Our so called Superior "Honeymoon Suite" had basic cheap looking 4 poster bed, torn carpet, peeling wall paper on ceiling, and stain on seats. We felt the need to photograph all this, as despite agreeing to a £20 per night supplement for the dog, they mentioned additional costs may be liable. The room had a whirlpool spa bath which we thought may help us relax after our "welcome". I can only describe the dreadful noise that came from this bath as simulating an industrial sized washing machine full of stones. Attempting to use the Bar we had 60 minutes earlier being advised we could use, we were again met with a sullen unfriendly attitude from staff. Only one other patron was present in Bar however we were curtly informed we were not welcome due to party of golfers who had preference over us. No mention of these golfers had been made earlier, neither had any need to book. No alternative or apology was offered. Now being charged £180 per night plus potential cost of food and drink, to be discriminated against as a 2nd class inconvenience was more than we would accept. Little more than 2 hours after arriving, we informed hotel due to our treatment and state of room we would be leaving. Dreadful attitude throughout from staff and in our experience this shabby hotel is not friendly to guests never mind dogs. Avoid, and go to nearby Royal Hotel who know how to welcome both people and dogs.

Had a family meal here for the first time in a few years. Staff were great and everyone enjoyed their meal. On paying the bill there was a 10% service charge however this does not go to the staff. It is really disappointing that a hotel owner charges this but doesn?t pass it onto their staff.

I stayed four nights and ate in the hotel every night. The room was comfortable and quiet. The food was acceptable, staff helpful. I would stay again if in the area. An added advantage for some travellers would be the nearby distillery only a short walk away.

It?s been a few years since our last visit to this hotel. Memories of a home from home is what we looked forward to. We entered the car park to find we were the only vehicle parking there. Check in was therefore quick and easy. We were given our room key and asked if we?d like to book a table for dinner; we did , 6pm, a nice early dinner a after day of travelling. Our room was large and comfy. Generally clean . It was very large, with a comfy bed and large bathroom. The shower was not very powerful but the bath was nice and large. The shower curtain needs replacing as showing signs of mould. There was no functioning hairdryer or iron in room which was a disappointment. We had a great night sleep although we did awaken to the sound of seagulls through the open window as there was no air con in the room early in the morning. Dinner menus seemed more limited than before, but the quality of food is still good. Breakfast was great, nice full cooked breakfast, egg, sausage, beans, haggis, black pudding , tatty scone All were cooked well and tasted great. Still a warm, friendly home from home, but a couple of niggles reduce the score. I hope this wonderful hotel can survive and thrive in this new world of high expectations with minimal cost !?!?

My partner and I stayed during July as we explored the Highlands and the NC500. Although the hotel itself requires some tlc the staff were exceptional. Particularly Patricia and Cathy who were always cheerful, helpful and willing to ensure all the guests needs were served. I particularly enjoyed Patricia's sense of humour and banter. The food was well presented, however I was disappointed at the quality. Housekeeping was outstanding in particular the care and attention to detail shown by Cathy showed immense pride in her work.

AVOID at all costs. Outside areas filthy dirty tissue paper and general rubbish, over run with weeds. Looks completely neglected.. The inside is worse, it looks like it has not been touched since the 1970?s everything is dull and thoroughly depressing. The carpets are completely worn on the stairs and hallways and there is a strong smell of perfume through the rooms and hallways, I assume to cover up the smell of the musty carpets. The room itself was of a good size but desperately needed renovating. The so called king size bed was two singles pushed together. The shower was completely blocked up and didn?t work and the cold taps were so badly corroded you had to use a towel to turn them on and off. They only clean your room or empty dirty bins if you make a special request for your room to be cleaned and serviced. We paid top.rate for this hotel and even payed a supplement for £40 per day for two chihuahua?s. Dreadfully over priced. A member of staff was very rude about one of our dogs because it barked for few seconds the night before at another owners dog. We felt she was rude and sarcastic. She said after last night I don?t think so In a sarcastic manner. When we confronted her she said a lot of people complained about Ella barking. All we did was check in and was shown around a lounge where no one was around that we could go with her in the day. I asked her where we could put the used poop bags and her response was we don?t deal with that kind of thing. I couldn?t stand it and left the following evening I was looking forward to a complete break but came away feeling more stressed and Ill than when I arrived. We?ve lost a lot of money but could not bare to stay. I got more depressed through out the day and the rudeness of the staff member made my mind up to just go. Some of the staff were very pleasant one was very rude but the poor condition of the hotel and the rudeness made it impossible for me to stay, so I had to leave after one night instead of my booking for three nights, so have lost a lot of money as it?s not refundable.

Its difficult to know where to begin when reviewing the Morangie and our recent stay. The rooms and communal areas are dated and require a full revamp! The food and drink is overpriced for what it is, £16 for a burger with frozen chips and £6.20 for a pint of lager. The rooms are again overpriced and not up to scratch at all. feels like your staying in a 2 star. The rooms don't get cleaned unless you hang a "please clean" sign on the door, the excuse given for this is "Covid" - save money is the real reason. The corridor was stinking of Cannabis smoke, coming from the kitchen... You soon come to realise that it's solely the owners fault why this hotel isnt what it should be and you begin to feel sorry for the staff left to deal with it. A truly disappointing stay, wont be back and strongly suggest anyone looking to stay to find an alternative (and not the Mansfield which is ran in the same way by the same owner)

I haven't visited here for 3 years and now I remember why. Over £6 for a pint is ridiculous. Truly ridiculous. Tired dated decor. Dirty carpets. It's like time has stood still and not in a good way. Food adequate but overpriced like everything else. Definitely won't bother again. I thought they may have made more of an effort to attract customers back after covid but clearly not.

Great property which is let down by looking drab and not cared for. Realise both Covid and Brexit has battered the Hospitality industry but some people have bitten the bullet and invested. Shame as the food and service was excellent. Just let down my poor stock in the Bar and very tired bedrooms
