We enjoyed our stay at Mansfield castle very much. It was a very pleasant surprise considering some of the negative comments which were very unwarranted.
Our experience was positive from the start and wish we stayed longer.
Wonderful staff who work very hard. Room was very spacious and loved the antique furniture. We had 2 delicious meals which were well priced. Breakfast was lovely and served in the sunny dining room by a friendly server.

Nice hotel with ambience and flair. Good bar and rich breakfast. Unfortunately our room - still the most important thing in the hotel - was a bitter disappointment. Cold (16 degrees), heating off, everything clammy. Flushing toilet only works to a limited extent. At just under 200 euros per night, it's far too expensive

Just stopped at the Mansfield for the night. It's old but spotlessly clean, which is the main thing. The staff were lovely and attentive to my.2 doggies. Didn't eat here, so can't comment on that. The bath had plenty of hot water, I live in my.motorhome full time, so this was a treat and I'm leaving very happy.

Beautiful small and romantic castle hotel. Nicely decorated rooms and public areas. The restaurant is more of a dining room, is simple and does not feel like a castle. The food is good, the continental breakfast is very basic with no fresh baguette or fresh croissant, but pre-packed croissants that are less tasty. The environment is very relaxing and green. Parking is available on site in front of the hotel and there is a terrace and bar where you can have a drink.

Jesus where do you start
We were really looking forward to it, but it is an old mess.
Room 1, nothing has been done to it for at least 50 years. The shower? has a hot tub from 1985, dirty and gross with mold. If you turn it on, black mold will fly around your ears. The shower head is a piss trickle beyond belief. Tile is loose and torn. Musty clammy bed.
To top it all off, the Hotel also appears to be Haunted according to Google and the Reviews.
Immediately itching and rash after showering and using the towels.

A really nice, clean and very lovingly furnished hotel. Has a bit of a castle feel. We were able to spend 2 days here on our way through and felt very, very comfortable. We'll definitely be happy to come back.
Rooms: English style and lovingly furnished.
Food & drinks: At breakfast you ordered from the waiter and it was served at the table. The selection at the buffet would be smaller but sufficient.

Old (somewhat run-down) castle, super clean room with bathroom, very comfortable beds, friendly staff, even if they sometimes seem a bit overwhelmed. But we were able to negotiate the price.Very quiet location, about 10 minutes away from the main street. The restaurant is good, can be recommended as one of the 2-3 options in town.

Of course the furnishings could be better and newer etc. Then it would probably be twice as expensive. For two nights in the "Castle", I think it was completely ok, my room and bathroom were clean, tidy and quite large.

KNOWN TO BAIT AND SWITCH AT LAST MINUTE AND PUT YOU IN MORANGIE HOUSE HOTEL WHICH IS A VERY RUNDOWN SUB STANDARD BUILDING. BE WARNED.Despite the reply below I feel this should dtay as it hasnt just happened to me but to several others and is a fact regardless of how insulting they say it is, maybe they should consider how insulting it is to not get what you paid for.

This was such a great place to stay! The food was delightful and had a great variety. The service was impeccable and everyone was so friendly! Our room was cozy and I love the color scheme. My only complaint is that it is time for new mattresses. The bar was charming and the grounds were well kept. They even have a castle cat named Lucky.

Such a great experience at this hotel! Great atmosphere, amazing staff, and outstanding food! An easy walk into town makes this a perfect choice for a holiday. John and everyone at this hotel made our stay a wonderful time. This place is a must if you?re ever close to Tain! ?

We booked to stay 2 nights but were so appalled at the state of the place, we accepted our pre payment as lost and the extra cost to stay elsewhere. First impressions, a broken down vehicle in the car park that had been there so long, grass had grown up under it and it was covered in green algae. This wasn't in a discreet location but right in front of the hotel. There was also a filled waste bin and a tired, shredded flag remnant on the flag pole above the tower to add to the vista. Inside, the furniture in the reception areas was dirty and greasy, the newspapers were months old. Staff were very busy so no chance of an early check in. We preferred to sit in the car rather than in the reception areas while we waited. When we were allowed to check in, our room was very basic but ok. Unfortunately the smell (of a cheap car deodoriser) was so overwhelming I found it nauseating. We immediately found other accommodation so cannot comment on breakfast. A very expensive mistake, AVOID!
