“Ate at the restaurant. Staff was very kind and there was live music. Didn’t have a reservation but they offered us a spot at the bar to wait and we had a table in less than 10 min which was great on a Saturday night. Pretty busy, seems like THE place to go in Pitlochry. Only reason we didn’t give it a 5 star was because we ordered food and it came on our table in about 2 minutes which (great if you’re hungry) but made me think the meals weren’t fresh.”

“Return to this hotel time after time. Just perfect as not too large and commercial. Offers a more comfortable, personalised experience. Staff are lovely and helpful. The food is certainly worthy of a Michelin star. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the hotel is immaculate.Rooms: Good sized rooms with high standard of cleanliness. Beautifully decorated and furnished.Nearby activities: Various tourist attractions in and around the area, depending on your interests.Walkability: Five minute walk, mainly downhill, to the main street in Pitlochry. Uphill on the return but manageable.”

“Excellent authentic experience. Great food and charming building. We stayed in the Otter Room. En-suite with very comfortable king sized bed. The Vegan evening meal was fantastic. Breakfasts were varied, delicious and substantial. The location gave access to many scenic and walking areas of varying difficulty. We loved The Hermitage for walking, the Queen’s View for scenery and The House if Brewar complex for shopping.”

“A wonderful building in a beautiful wooded setting. It has all the charm and atmosphere of a traditional country house hotel, yet it is literally a few minutes from the main street of Pitlochry. Clean and comfortable rooms, and helpful, pleasant staff. But what sets this hotel apart is the quality of the kitchen. The food is fine dining of the highest quality. Highly recommended.”

“Having just spent two nights at Atholl Palace, celebrating an early birthday I cannot recommend the hotel enough. From the minute of arrival we were greeted with such warm hospitality, the rooms were made up so beautifully and the exceptional views from the Valley view. Dinner was delectable with many choices available. What really does the hotel justice is the exceptional location in the heart of Pitlochry, our Thursday was spent out exploring the area, Faskally Forrest in particular was a favourite!”

“Brilliant evening with a couple of pints of Braveheat and a cigar. The place is so different in summer, compared with winter but just as welcoming and lovely. I miss the fire, but outside, watching the sun set was lovely. Always make time, when stalking to have and evening there!!”

“A solid decent meal post-drive to Edinburgh. We'd just arrived so were feeling tired but hungry, and the Veranda restaurant did its job. Good service eased a pretty pedestrian meal, but we did enjoy it. And the wine was pretty good too! Decent pastas and many of the dishes featured a smattering of 'traditional Scottish' fare eg haggis, salmon etc. The cheese plate was a bit ordinary, but hey ho: not our primary objective!”

“I stayed at the Pitlochry Hydro for 2 night last week. Despite the negative reviews, its a well known hotel and at £75 per night just the day before I arrived I couldn't say no. The hotel is just outside of town and has a large car park, its an easy 10 minute walk from the main street and train station (and on a bus route if you don't fancy the walk). Check in was quick and easy and I was given a room on the 2nd floor. It was fairly compact, but far from the smallest single I've stayed in. There was plenty of tea/coffee provided, the bed was comfortable (if a little bit creaky!) And the ensuite was clean with toiletries and enough towels provided. The bar is very pleasant, with an outdoor seating area, very friendly staff and competitive prices especially given the prices of the pubs in town (you'd think you were in London not the Highlands at many!) Breakfast is very reasonably priced and offers a good selection, although I thought the hot food on offer was fairly poor quality and I'd rather pay an extra couple of pounds for something a bit better so on my 2nd morning I had breakfast elsewhere. All in all, I really enjoyed my stay at the Hydro- yes, it's old and could do with a bit of tlc- and after years as a Shearings hotel, that's to be expected and hopefully the new owners will get round to it- but its quirky and unique. I spend quite a lot of time in the usual chain hotels and as much as it's nice to know exactly what you'll get before you arrive, it's even better to find somewhere a bit different every now and again.”

“We had dinner and drinks here and thoroughly enjoyed it, reasonably priced and food was delicious, all anyone needs in a restaurant. We didn't stay so can't rate the rooms.”

“Booked this hotel for a two night stay for myself my husband and six family members for bed and breakfast (great breakfast choices). Didn't read any reviews at the time but had a look the week before we were due to stay and had second thoughts as many of the reviews were terrible. The hotel reception was very busy when we arrived no-one was complaining and the reception staff were polite and helpful. We had 2 family rooms and one double room and we could find no fault with them, the rooms were clean, bed linen spotless and a good supply of lovely towels. There was a plentiful supply of toiletries and coffee and tea facilities which were refilled each morning. The pool, spa and gym area were lovely and again lovely white towels supplied for our use. I would say that the ladies changing area could do with an update. This is an old building and everything may not be perfect but all in all we had a lovely stay here and would definitely return.”
