Having visited the area many times we wanted to visit steam packet restaurant having heard so much about it. It was lovely evening and people were both inside and outside the venue so we accept they appeared busy. The Cullen skink had by 2 of our group was very salty with very little fish visible in it. Couldn't finish it due to the salt. The mains looked nice but very small portions - for an evening meal. 2 slices/pieces of duck with a spoon of red cabbage some scattered grapes and a very salty potato fondant - wasn't eaten again. The slow cooked beef was average at best. Of our group the best meal was the vegetarian mac n cheese with lobster which was enjoyed. Due to a long wait we decided against having a dessert so in all an underwhelming experience.

We ate and drank here a lot during our visit last May. In March this year I booked lunch of Monday 6th May for 11 people and it was confirmed by personal email. Today, one week before 6th May I was informed by telephone that they will not be serving food on Mondays after all. A Lot of people are hugely inconvenienced by this decision to change their opening hours and we are extremely disappointed. A confirmed booking is a legally binding contract and should have worked both ways. We will be staying locally again this year but won't even pop in for a drink. This is shabby practice.

My wife and I have eaten at the Steam Packet over the past few years and food and service have always been good. Today we went for lunch and the food was at another level ! We had Cullen skink and the scallops it was cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. We shall certainly be back. Thankyou.

What an improvement now this is under new management and the menu much reduced so that the standard can be upheld. We were careful to choose an evening when there were 3 specials on the menu as the other menu is ordinary pub grub.(So choose your evening carefully) We were delighted with the balance between fish/meat and the ample perfectly, freshly cooked unusual veg. The sauces were excellent; a true sign of a good chef. If this standard of food can be maintained this time around we will be regular visitors. One very small quibble....I would prefer a traditional flatter plate to eat off rather than a gimmicky high sided dish, but it didn't detract from the flavours. It was all about QUALITY, not quantity which is very rare these days! THANK YOU.

Visited the Steam Packet 9/3/24, we are regular visitors. We were eager to try the new menu?. It did not disappoint, we enjoyed starters of breaded mushrooms and scallops?delicious! Main?. we both made the most of the delicious specials, curried monkfish and lentil dhal for me and the chicken burger for the man. The monkfish was perfectly spiced, cooked to perfection and the lentil dhal made the perfect accompaniment. The chicken burger was a full chicken breast, served with proper chips and plenty of them. Service was great, efficient and friendly. Can?t fault anything!

Supper in the Steam Packet tonight was fabulous - we both had scallops on a bed of celeriac with apple and nuts as a starter - not a combination we would have thought of, but really delicious. The lamb to follow was really tender and the monkfish curry outstanding. Thank you very much to all the staff who were very friendly and helpful.

After getting completely soaked from the back end of jolly ?Storm Gerrit? we certainly did! A nice drenching walk to the lighthouse. Anyway, a nice evening was had at the Steam Packet Inn which I would certainly recommend. The food was delicious (especially the scallops) coupled with an impressive array of local ales from the Five Kingdoms Brewery. Well done guys for keeping a thriving pub in an out of the way place.

Super, terrific afternoon at the Steampacket Inn....had a lovely lunch with my family and canine friend and we all thoroughly enjoyed it! I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a good, tasty and ample meal. Service was excellent, staff were excellent and we were very looked after. We ate: Wild Boar Burger (my favourite!), Fish Pie, Mussels and Smoked Sea Bream.....all DELICIOUS! Thanks again for a great afternoon!
