Great hotel stayed only 1 night as doing a training course nearby. The room i had was very large, great bathroom and AC. The breakfast was great and restaurant was brilliant with good selection.

Room was tired. Staff were informed of problems with the room tv and central light but the problem remained. Lack of apparent communication seemed to cloud what is an excellent location.

Absolutely loved it here. Fab room, friendly and helpful staff and delicious food in the restaurant.

A lovely hotel with so much warmth and character. Ideally positioned for visiting nearby Blenhein Palace and Oxford. Friendly and professional staff highly recommended.

Really pleased with the hotel in Woodstock. The room was lovely, very comfortable with everything we needed. We enjoyed a good dinner and breakfast at the hotel. The people looking after us at both were very pleasant and efficient. Would definitely recommend the hotel.

A VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE
Location is excellent but that is where it finishes.
Room was clean but towels were hard, no face flannels or bathrobes . Limited products and coffee pods.Requests for more were ignored.
Breakfast was the worst we have ever experienced. Limited selection of everything and what there was , was such poor quality , it was a joke.Other guests were also complaining.
Some staff were rude and dismissive of any requests.
We booked and paid 4 months ahead on an earlybird discounted rate only to discover when we arrived that our room was now GBP150 cheaper. per night We were refused any discount and told this was their policy. DO NOT STAY HERE , you will be disappointed.

Lovely hotel with so much history. Our superior double room was marvellous. Large bed and large separate sitting area. Bathroom was faultless.

We spent two nights incl. breakfast, had two dinners and one English cream tea lunch.
The fish and chips at first dinner was the worst dish I?ve ever been served - and I do normally like fish n chips.
The service was somewhere between non-existing and very poor and up to unfriendly - not at all what I am used to in the UK.
I?ve never been in a restaurant where I could not order wine or beer at the table - had to go to the bar next door and? join the line.
The availability of wines was embarrassing - although the wine list was okay.
Positive: there was one young lady at Sunday breakfast who was caring and friendly.
Summary: a complete mismatch of (quite high) price and very poor quality and service.
Food and drinks: Just poor.

What could have been a really great stay was ruined on night 2 by the restaurant manager saying that we could not dine with them that night. Apparently a large group event was booked but they must have know about that before we checked in. Any good 'team' would have shared booking information and advised the customer in advance that something was not possible. The Bear charges 5 star prices but in places only delivered less than 3 star service. I cannot recommend Macdonald Hotels at all. Wood stock was great however and we will return, but definitely not to the Bear Hotel.
