“We had the most incredible afternoon tea today in The Rise. it was the Wizarding Afternoon Tea and it was perfection ❤️ My friend is Vegan and hers was delicious and as impressive. the service was wonderful, a definite recommendation.”
“Charming, warm, and full of flavor. The interior had a European bistro feel with tile floors and wooden accents. I had the moules frites—mussels in a white wine garlic broth with crispy shoestring fries. It was indulgent and fresh. Dessert was a lemon tart with just the right amount of tang. Service was friendly, and timing was perfect. Ideal for a date night!!!!!!!”
“The staff at this hotel are friendly, helpful and a credit to the company. I have stayed in a number of best western hotels when I have had to work away, and this hotel was exactly as I expected it to be. The room we stayed in was large with a comfortable bed. It was necessary to ask for the room to be cleaned, but the fact that I needed to do so is clearly indicated in the lobby. This is also in line with many other hotels, do this was certainly not an issue. The breakfasts were good, as we're the meals served in the evening. The location was perfect for our purpose of visiting National trust properties in Yorkshire that we had not visited for a number of years.
In short this is a nice hotel , Witham great staff, and I wouldn't think twice about returning there.”
“Honestly amazing customer service and amazing food Louie ,nicky and I believe the ladies name was Rachel all amazing friendly attentive service was fast and polite
Food was good pub food large portions and good price taste was 10/10”
“Exceptional gastropub in a beautiful location. The food and service is of a very high standard. The subtle sophistication of the interior adds to the warm, relaxed ambience. Highly recommended.”
“The New Holgate is a beautifully newly renovated property a short walking distance to the main town of York.We had a fabulous stay here , the rooms were lovely, cosy and well equipped for what we needed we were situated on the top floor and it was lovely and quiet. The best part is the very welcoming and warm staff, they made our stay special, they were very warm, genuinely chatty and informative about York as it was our first visit. We had our dog with us and it was no problem at all, they do offer a wonderful breakfast and doggie alternative.I will definitely be back , Holgate hold on to your wonderful staff they go above and beyondRooms: Lovely newly renovated rooms with everything we needed for our stayWalkability: We walked from there into town both days , which is just a short walk.”
“Typical travelodge. We had a superior room which was good and clean but quite small and compact. 10 minute walk to central York. Adequate parking and has a Costa attached if you like their coffee. Didn’t try the restaurant for breakfast or dinner so can’t comment. Drinks at the bar are expensive.”
“Currently staying at the hotel with my friend. Beautiful, clean and comfortable room with a stunning view of York Minster and the River Ouse (room 709). Highly recommended. Comfortable bed and room facilities x”
“Have been a customer at The black Swan for over 30 years on my visits to Helmsley and had many excellent lunches there with friends from USA etc.
Today I visited with a friend for the first time in a few months and found standards had slipped drastically.
The place was far from pristine the food was very poor ...Luke warm and tasteless and the staff ( at first although it was noon a single young man) were under great pressure.
Both my companion and myself were extremely disappointed and will not return again in a hurry”
“Staff were very welcoming, our room clean and very comfortable. Location was about 3 miles from York centre and park and ride was only 5mins from Premier Inn. Ideal to leave car and have a pleasant ride through York. Will be revisiting York and will stay at the Premier Inn again.”
“If you want 5 star ritzy service, go to the ritz. This place is budget friendly. The rooms are a bit dated now and could use a link of paint. But there isn't much around here, you book here to sleep, not for the ambiance. The walls in the room were a bit thin, I was woken up in the night by the... activities of the room next door. The place is close to the road, there's a nearby Starbucks and McDonald's. Good value for money pleased with our stay.”

“Then beds were not made and we only had one hand towel to share. The breakfast was great and staff were very friendly and the location was great for all the attractions.”
“One night stay at this Travelodge. Have to say the staff were really welcoming and helpful during our stay. The location for a next day drive to York was also perfect for the price. The only negative was the room. Although reasonably clean there were a couple of clothing labels on the floor from the previous occupant which says they didnt hoover properly. The bathroom was fine and clean. Also one plug socket and usb charging point wasnt working. Reportes this so will undoubtedly be repaired (the guy was straight on it). Overall for a one nighter would stay again.”

“Fantastic location, good value for money. Comfortable rooms/ clean. Staff were friendly. Quick check in. Convenient that there's a pub right next door for cheaper meals/ drinks etc. Would 100% use again when we next visit York.”
“Great value.
Lovely room...... clean, neat and well appointed.
Special thanks to the wonderful receptionist.
She could banter with the best and gave me a great laugh.
Terrific food in the adjoining Pub.”
“Have just returned from a wonderful couple of days in York and thoroughly recommend this hotel. This is our second stay and both times have been absolutely perfect. Everyone so very friendly, very spacious rooms and extremely comfortable bed. Cannot wait for our return visit.”
“Hotel on the edge of the city - 10/15 minute walk to the centre. Plenty of hotels in this area. Wetherspoons is opposite alongside a Travelodge. Rooms are comfortable and well maintained, but views are not a feature. Service is good. This hotel is good for a city break in York or a business trip. It is not glamorous or pretty but a serviceable and comfortable hotel.”
“Excellent location visiting family.Reception were very helpful out room was very hot and he dodged that. Very clean, shower brilliant. Absolutely worth every penny.Rooms: Super clean”
“me and my fiancé spent the weekend here marking our 5th year anniversary and it was amazing as it was our first time ever in York.
the staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, always offering and asking if we required support or help with our bags or other things.
the hotel is not far at all from the city centre and fairly priced for what you receive, i noticed on other reviews that people complain about the £15 parking charge but i think it’s a bargain considering average parking in the area is much higher, paying the £15 a night ensures your car is tucked away of the street and safely in the car park which was a peace of mind for us.
we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, especially with the excellent room service, cleanliness and the very kind room upgrade we were given to mark our celebrations. the TV wasn’t working which was ashame however we didn’t let it dampen our weekend and were too busy doing touristy things. if anyone is thinking of visiting clementines, i would definitely recommend it. thank you :)”
