Absolute gem of a church. We had it all to ourselves this afternoon and spent two glorious hours exploring a small space packed with history. Should be on the itinerary of everyone who visits York. Wish we could have found the light switches though as it was very dark!

York's finest medieval Church, site of the York Visions of 1421 foretelling the death of Henry V and laying down details for the coronation of the future baby as Henry VI ("The Saintly King") as well as other details. Some of the finest early 15th century stained glass in England. Painted Angel Ceiling of 1471. Roman column. New "medieval style" tile pavement in the Lady Chapel. Fine organ. Good Rood Screen from 1926, surmounted by earlier figures. Anglo Catholic traditional worship within The Church of England. Fantastic clean acoustics, without being "dead".
