“Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. We had two breakfasts and two evening meals at The Old Gate Inn; the menu was extensive, prices reasonable, the service was quick and polite, and the food was delicious! Location was perfect for exploring Canterbury.Nearby activities: 45 minutes walk into the centre of Canterbury.”

“Really pleasant stay here for the night of a wedding, the owners were very accommodating and were able to allow us to check in a bit earlier. Room was nicely decorated, very clean and stocked up well. There are parking bays round the side of the hotel although I don’t think you could park there all day. Breakfast was beautiful! Very reasonably priced for a boutique hotel. Would definitely recommend and would go bk again.”

“We enjoyed our stay a lot. The location, with ample parking space, was perfect for us. We enjoyed our 15 min walks from the hotel to the city center and back. The hotel felt like taking a trip back in time. Creaky stairs and floorboards under retro striped carpet. It did smell a bit old here and there too, but we did not mind that at all. To us it only added to the charm of the place. We stayed 3 nights in a small double bedroom. It was clean, so was the bathroom. The bed was quite comfortable. We liked the coffee, tea, instant chocolate and cookies in our room. The breakfast buffet was lovely. We enjoyed the eggs and bacon, but also the good croissants, yoghurt and fresh fruit. The music in the breakfast room was also very nice.We tried their Carvery dinner too. The roast beef was a bit dry, but we liked the juicy turkey and the side dishes a lot. It also was very reasonably priced. The receptionist was kind and helpful. We would definately stay again.”

“Situated almost in the centre of Canterbury, this 300 Yr old hotel is possibly the cheapest in the city! It is clean & functional & there's nothing really to fault...OK, the single glazed window frames are showing a little sign of rust but don't let that put you off- we paid £37 for the night-cheaper than 90% of air bnb's in the area! The night we arrived the bar & kitchen weren't open but you've got The 2 Sawyers pub & phoebe's cafe only a couple of minutes away. Parking is catered for with a small one in front of the hotel (with 2 disabled bays which are free) & an overflow one big enough for vans (if you're working away from home) Situated between the hotel & pub. So maybe not the venue for a romantic getaway, but to stay on a budget-ideal! Just check the prices of accommodation in & around Canterbury & try & find cheaper!”
