Sainsbury's in Oldham is located on Union Street in the town centre, just outside the Oldham Central stop on the Manchester Metrolink. The store has been in Oldham for as long as I can remember, and it's gone downhill massively over the years, the Cafe has closed and unlike most outgoing Sainsbury's Cafes at other stores were not replaced, they also closed down the toilets in April 2023 and never re-opened them (Come on, what large supermarket doesn't have toilets?). The prices are a little high here but I find Sainsbury's to be more premium overall, there are some good deals on branded products with a Nectar card - again this is something new in retail which I HATE. Stores are forcing customers to sign up with personal data for loyalty schemes, cutting down on points rewards and just bringing down prices to what they would have cost anyway. The selection in the store was fine, it wasn't overly pretty/modern and could certainly do with a refit to match some of the newer/nicer Sainsbury's stores, again it just feels like Sainsbury's Oldham is on its' leg with no money being spent on it in a long time. The staff in the store didn't seem too helpful, on my most recent trip to the store I used Sainsbury's Smartshop, and for some reason it would not let me checkout at the tills, after taking and staring at my phone, the lady working on the self-service checkouts just shrugged her shoulders and suggested I rescanned my shopping.2* - It truly does feel like Sainsbury's does not want to be in Oldham anymore. The nearest other supermarkets would be just outside the town centre with the Tesco at Mumps Bridge or ASDA and Morrisons in Chadderton but if Sainsbury's can't cut it, someone else should just take over.
