Really disappointing to see this formally good establishment in a state of decline. Needs better management.

Shocking lack of cleanliness.
All our 3 rooms were coated in thick layers of dust. Drinking glasses hadn?t been washed since the previous guests. One room had a carpet stain by the wardrobe that looked like animal faeces. Worse still, the top of that wardrobe was littered with what appeared to be bird droppings. The hygiene and housekeeping standards were simply appalling.
On the second night, around 1 a.m., we ? and likely every guest ? were jolted awake by a group outside the hotel for about an hour. They were banging on the doors, throwing stones at upstairs windows, and repeatedly sounding their car horn. They?d been locked out; the front door was either faulty or had been deadlocked. There are no night staff or out-of-hours information that could assist guests in this situation.
When we raised this with the general manager the next day, he only attended after being specifically requested to do so. While polite, he deflected responsibility, claiming the situation was beyond the hotel?s control and that the door had somehow been deadlocked from inside ? an explanation that raised more questions than it answered.
For what is marketed as a charming hotel in a beautiful setting, the Hope Anchor delivered a stay that was neither restful nor hygienic. Very disappointing.

Super convenient location just off Mermaid street in the heart of Rye. Lovely rooms and a hearty full English breakfast's served in this beautiful historic hotel. Loved our stay here. The staff were helpful and friendly.

Was my favourite spot for a beer however, no more draught and beyond London prices for anything else. £19 for 2 medium glasses of wine and a small apple juice - Came here regularly - this will be the last time! Poor decisions have been made!

Had a great time staying here, great room, great service from very friendly staff and 10% off at The George for dinner was also a bonus. Happy hour with cheese and biscuits was a great surprise and only added to our stay.

In terms of the hotel itself, I had no real issues. Granted the rooms were a bit tired, could do with getting the old carpets changed but otherwise, it is reflective of the area that it is in.
Upon arrival at the hotel, we were informed that we had to pay for our room up front. Now normally when we stay at a hotel on company business, our travel booking agent will arrange for payment of the room to be made, meaning that we shouldn't have to pay for the room. At £360 for 3 nights, this wasn't an insignificant amount of money (especially before payday, when I hadn't accounted for this having to come out of my bank account). It was late so we didn't want to argue the toss so we decided to pay from our own card. We checked this again with our travel provider, who informed us that they had in fact sent the payment details to them two weeks prior, so we should not have been charged the money.
We raised this with the HA when checking out and they confirmed that they had erroneously taken the money from our card. As such, we were assured that if we were to phone them a few days later, that the money would be refunded to our card. However, it has now been over two weeks and I am yet to receive this refund. This has not been for lack of trying from both myself and the company, with numerous phonecalls made to the HA, most of the time with no answer and when there was an answer, I was informed that their accounts team had not yet received payment (even although payment details had been provided to them over a month ago). Considering that this error was made in their part, it should be incumbent on them to resolve the issue. However, I found myself chasing my tail trying to recover my own money. Thankfully, there seemed to be one competent individual (Danielle) who helped me to process the payment back onto my card today.
From the other reviews, I understand that a lot of people travelling here for leisure may have had a perfectly pleasant stay with no issues, the actual hotel itself isn't terrible. However, from my own experience, the interactions I have had with them have been completely unprofessional and I would not expect this from a hotel that has presumably been running for many years. I'm sure that if I stayed at the hotel and made 0 payments to them for multiple weeks, that I would rightfully be getting hounded from them to pay before they took legal action. I do not see how this is any different.

Lovely friendly hotel with bedrooms with views, even if with roofs in the foreground.

Be aware that there is no carparking here. You may be able to drive up the cobbled streets to drop off bags but then you need to park in a Pay & Display elsewhere in town.
With that said, this was a nice little hotel in historic cobbled streets and with a nice view over the town. The staff were very friendly, and the cooked breakfast was very good. There is no food available for an evening meal but you are given a voucher for money-off at a nearby pub. For a short stay in the middle of the prettiest part of Rye this is a decent choice.

We had a lovely Valentine's weekend stay at The Hope Anchor Hotel in Rye. The hotel is conveniently located just a 2-minute walk from the famous Mermaid Street and within easy reach of major attractions and transport options.
Our room was compact yet well-equipped with all the necessary amenities, and the highlight was the stunning view of Rye Harbour. The hotel was well-managed, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making our stay even more enjoyable.
Breakfast each morning was delicious and fulfilling, with a great selection of fresh and tasty options. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend The Hope Anchor Hotel to anyone looking for a charming and comfortable stay in Rye.
