Have just stayed for 3 nights at The Belmont, Sidmouth (10-12th Sept) and had a very nice time. However I did just mention to the reception staff that my husband was celebrating his 80th birthday on 12 Sept and although I wouldn't have expected a fuss I did think it would have been a nice gesture for them to have perhaps just given him a drink on the house with his dinner on his special day, but nothing. Very disappointed. Mrs J Chinnick

We did have a lovely stay for a weekend.
It is definitely a traditional hotel with some very old fashioned ideas , like dinner jackets and ties for dinner in the evening. We?ve stayed at 5* hotels all over the world and only ever had to dress smart casual. We didn?t go down for dinner because of this and ate out at other places on an evening. However breakfast was the best we have ever had.
The residents are all pensioners , no mix of ages when we were there so we felt really young.
The rooms were comfortable and well maintained with beautiful bedding, towels and condiments.

We stayed here for a celebratory weekend treat and we were very happy with the choice of hotel. It's situated right next to the esplanade and we had a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the seafront. Complimentary chocolates, a fruit bowl and bottled water were provided.
Downstairs was a spacious lounge, a grand dining room and a separate dining area which was more informal. In the afternoon we had a delicious afternoon tea sitting by the picture window with a wonderful view of the seaside. Both evenings there was a pianist playing easy listening tunes. The breakfast was very good with a large selection on the menu, served at the table. In the evening canapés are served in the lounge. We sampled the Table d'Hote menu and had a delicious meal: Fillet steak Wellington with plenty of fresh vegetables followed by cheesecake. It was beautifully presented and served by friendly waiters. The Belmont has a pretty garden, sun terrace and putting green and guests at the Belmont are able to use the facilities at the Victoria hotel next door. We very much enjoyed the indoor pool, spa bath, steam room and sauna but they also have an outdoor pool with a poolside bar and a tennis court.
I can't fault the hotel in any way, we had a marvellous time as the location is fabulous and the staff made you feel special.

Quaint well maintained hotel on Sidmouth sea front, not air conditioned, but rooms of various sizes, book a sea view, the hotel shares leisure facilities including outdoor and indoor pools and spa with the sister Victoria hotel next door

Lovely location overlooking the seafront and would be ideal for mature and the elderly except for access which is quite severe due to a steep incline up to the main entrance and steps down to side exit. Both come into use when using the Spa and Pool facilities at the sister hotel.
A warm greeting is waiting at arrival with receptionists both friendly and helpful.Service is also efficient and willing to do the little extra as required.
The standard of meals was most disappointing both with choice and quality.
Rooms: Traditional style furnishings with comfortable bed and en suite with bath and overhead shower.
All well equipped and very clean
Nearby activities: Putting green on site
Sidmouth cricket field adjacent to the hotel
Connaught gardens a short uphill walk away

Beautiful place. Perfect position on the front in Sidmouth, moments from the beach with lifeguard station. Grand but very friendly. We had one of the cheaper rooms. Still, it was airy and spacious, with a partial sea view. Room service also very much appreciated.

Just home from our annual stay at The Belmont to celebrate my Mum's 95th birthday. Fantastic time enjoyed . Food continues to be the best ever . Service fantastic. Deluxe sea view room stunning. Special mention to the lady who assisted us in Horizon dining room. Sorry name escapes me ... she was able to accommodate our request to have my son dine with us when he turned up to surprise his grandma. Also lovely service from young lad behind the bar.. fairly new to the role. Again forgotten his name sorry. All in all a marvelous couple of nights made so special by all the staff at The Belmont.... our favourite hotel. Thank you. Cathy Bone and her Mum Doreen.

Great location with the beach and the sea in front of the hotel. Our experience of the food in the Horizon restaurant was a mixed bag. The vegetarian options are good with sufficient choice but for me the vegetarian cottage pie was lacklustre in comparison to the other available dishes such as the cheese souffle. The rooms are well appointed with pleasant ensuit facilities. The staff are polite, friendly and helpful. Parking is available on site which is extremely helpful as is the addition of a disabled space nearest the reception entrance.Rooms: Well appointed rooms which was clean and tidy and included the usual hair dryer, tea tray TV etc. Room service is available. Ensuit is of a decent size with a good size shower and plenty of hot water. The rooms are refreshed daily as required.Nearby activities: The town is within easy walking distance and mainly flat which is beneficial to those with more limited mobility. The town nestles at the bottom of a valley so either side of the town you are confronted with hills.Walkability: Plenty of walks but with a certain requirement of mobility due to the hilly topography of the area. A walk along the seafront is accessible to most as it is mainly flat and well paved as is the town.Food & drinks: There are a good selection of restaurants and tea/coffee rooms in the town as well as a number of ice-cream parlours and a fish and chip shop.
