2 January 2024. A nearby restaurant cancelled our booking at the last minute, so at 6pm 11 of us turned up to see if we could have dinner. The staff were immediately receptive and worked fast to get us seated (even though they were already really busy!). We were made to feel really welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely dinner and drinks and were served promptly. Thanks to all the staff at Royal Oak.

Lovely pub near Keswick, had a great selection of drinks and friendly spaces for dogs. While we opted not to bring our dog in, it was nice for the staff to let us know that there was space available in the dog friendly area should we wish to move and bring the dog in.

We had lunch from the main menu. I had the steak pie and it was delicious. It was a proper pie encased in shortcrust pastry and it was full of tender, lean meat. I chose to have chips instead of mash and the vegetables were carrots, peas and red cabbage. My partner had the lamb henry and that was delicious, tender and filling. He also opted for chips. There was a nice selection of real ales too. The Christmas decorations were lovely and the pub was warm and cosy.

Booked a table an hour ahead and, in spite of being very busy on a Saturday evening in the pub, the staff were super welcoming (including to our dog). The food and service was great. Looking forward to visiting again!

Booked a meal over the phone for 8.15 on a Saturday night. On arrival, greeted with enthusiastic staff even though the pub was busy. Everything available on the menu and the food we ordered was perfect and on time. Big shout out to Dudley who was very on the ball with drinks and table service in general, especially the additional Pepper sauce for the chips! Highly recommend pub! ??

Had a great overnight stay earlier this week. It's a proper nice pub with amazing staff. We were biking in the area and this was a perfect location for us to stay. The food was top quality and nice sized portions. It looks like the rooms have recently been refurbished as they looked amazing and fresh. The star of the trip was the lady who served us. She was spot on with customer service and enjoyed a bit of fun along the way.I look forward to a return trip....

Very limited lunch Menue and not that great value for what's served looking at theeals others were eating. Mainly sandwiches with fries. Not much atmosphere and it felt a little 'damp' in the atmosphere. Similarly outside it looks, un cared for. It's a little off the beaten track and whilst not far off I doubt we'll make the effort to go there again. Perhaps we visited on a bad day but I don't think so.Update: The response from the landlord is fair comment. Many reviews are very positive. I was commenting on lunch and it was a 'bleak' day in Autumn and my opinion. What I forgot to say was my wife had soup which she enjoyed to be fair. I didn't say it was far off the beaten track but suggesting it was too far for me to consider a return given other hostelries in the area. It's the owners business and if they are happy that's all that matters. I mention damp atmosphere by which I meant it felt damp, possibly from the poor weather. It's how I found the experience, I have no vested interest to comment otherwise.

Visited as a large party, unfortunately they were understaffed. Young waiter did everything he could for us, couldn?t apologise enough and made us feel very welcome. Food outstanding when it came, pies full of meat and fish and chips humongous - lamb was delicious and fell off the bone. Food
