“Extremely friendly and efficient Staff who helped out tremendously with a Cash transaction.A bit of a back story.We had an American lady with us who'd not been to the UK for about 4 years and had only old Sterling notes with her. She had tried to pay for lunch earlier that day but was told that the cafe wouldn't accept her Cash as it was pre 2017 currency; whilst still legal Tender, they couldn't accept it. Luckily my Debit card was accepted!Banks and Post offices will accept them but do ask if there's a small charge?.The Post office staff member explained that - we could deposit the cash into our Bank account ( Santander). She would then accept this Deposit and we could then "Withdraw" this Money at the same time but receive New notes for Old. There was no Charge for this but some businesses may do?This also applies to £1.00 coins too!Do check if you're coming from outside the UK and have pre 2017 coinage and Paper notes. Some Businesses won't accept them as legal Tender.”
