I ate in the hotel with work colleagues so I can't comment on the hotel itself. Bar staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was excellent value....very good portions, well cooked and very tasty. Plenty of different ales on offer.

A wonderful place to relax. The lush greenery of the Lake District, the tranquility of village life, delicious food, hospitable hosts - all this can be experienced in this place. An ancient castle with an extraordinary rhododendron park, the beautiful Whitehaven with a yacht harbor and many other adventures await you here.

Expect a familly run hotel. It's not perfect, but the owners are very friendly and accommodating, and they will make it perfect if you give them a chance. They will do their best to please - bear in mind that they run it themselves - they will appear whenever you need them. The hotel is very quiet and restful with a comfy, good bed. The place has a home and family feel, and the owners are suitably chatty. There are always a few people in the pub and it has a good atmosphere (but you don't get the noise). On my first day, the WiFi in my room was not good, but I asked, and the next day, they'd spent the time and effort to sort it.Location wise it was fitting the bill for me, but there aren't any shops around.Rooms: The room has all you need and are large enough -so is the bathroom. Good comfy bed, very quiet, has lots of plugs, TV. Lots of storage space and hangers. Tea/coffee facilities and a desk. It also has a set of armchair with a small table. Possibility to open the windows.Food & drinks: The food is good, and you have the choice to eat in the pub, in the conservatory or in the terrace, overlooking the cows on the hill. The restaurant has vegetarian options although that's definitely not the center of the menu which is otherwise well balanced with good choice of meat and fish. They also serve the breakfast from 7 which is perfect if you have to go to work.Noteworthy details: Worth a mention, the taxis are terrible in the region, so if you need a lift from the train station (1/2h walk), let them know when you book the room and they will come and get you for a reasonable fee (that's a priceless service as none of the local taxi firms will be of service for such a short journey)

Having read the reviews we would have expected the Lutwidge Arms to be exceptional, however this was not the case. We arrived for a 2 night stay but left after 1 night as our room faced onto the main road and traffic noise started before 5 am! Double glazing made little difference. We did book a superior double room as with king size bed as per the hotel website description however the bed was a standard double. On arrival we were informed by the owner that due to rising energy costs there would not be enough hot water for a bath.Food in the restaurant was good although we were left sitting in the dining room for a while until we were told that orders had to be taken at the bar.All in all not a great experience so would not recommend to others.

Stayed here 4 nights while visiting the area. Thoroughly enjoyed the Lutwidge experience: Elena and Michael very welcoming and their colleague in the kitchen a particular star, sending out excellent breakfasts and a delicious evening meal on the night we chose to eat in. Very pleasing room and great location handy for coast as well as Eskdale. Thanks all.

Stayed at Lutwidge Arms for 1 night although originally planned 2 nights. Nice hotel however although we booked a superior room with King size bed, as per the website, we ended up with just a standard double bed. This was room 3 facing out to the main road and traffic noise started constantly from before 5 AM onwards. Not ideal if you want to get some sleep. Double glazing did not make much difference to the road noise. The host was friendly enough but let us know that there would not be enough hot water for a bath due to rising energy costs!! Also no info in the room about general hotel info, fire safety etc.

Decided to travel for something to eat and was not disappointed. Food was excellent and Very fairly priced. We had spicy creel prawns and brie for starters which were beautifully presented and tasted devine. For mains had chicken pie and duck and again tasted great and expertly presented. Felt well fed but could not resist the sticky toffee pudding for desert. Overall the evening was really relaxed and we had a memorable meal. Service relaxed but professional as was the ambiance of the venue. Really worth while the trip and would definitely recommend. Thanks to the whole team for an enjoyable evening.

Very disappointed in all the 3 meals we had.We were late by 10 mins, unavoidable on our part .. we were welcomed with this, then it was mentioned again when we asked for drinks, no we'll take your food order first! There were 3 men drinking in the whole of the restaurant... hardly busy!We definitely won't be back, nor recommend.

Myself and my partner drove up to the lake district from Devon. We arrived there and needed an evening meal. We were recommended here by our B&B. What a fantastic meal. I had the pasta and my partner had the fish and chips. Both very tasty meals and good value. Would highly recommend.

I was staying in the area after a day at the Ravensglass railway and a trip to Dalegarth, found this pub which was close to my b n b, I ordered a pint and the landlord said pay me later you may have another, I said I?m sitting outside but he said it was fine, not many places will trust you on that one, I did pop in to get another and paid up, pleasant pub and decent beer prices too! ?
