“Beautiful house in the heart of the lakes! Johnathan welcomed us and had impeccable service. He was friendly and attentive throughout. We enjoyed our evening in the bar and again Johnathan was extremely welcoming. It’s obvious he is dedicated to providing exceptional guest service. The breakfast was lovely so much attention to detail in every part. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The rooms were superb had everything you needed and were cleaned to a high standard. The whole hotel is beautifully finished and cared for. Thank you for a great weekend!”

“We had an amazing Sunday lunch at The Yan. We were welcomed in a very friendly way and the staff were very attentive to our needs. The food, which included starters, the lamb, beef and vegetarian sharing platters, was amazing, as were the delicious deserts! I think it’s probably the best Sunday lunch I’ve ever had and we all came home with boxes of leftovers as there was so much food! Highly recommend the red wine as well, although I can’t remember which it was!”

“Absolutely loved our stay at Rothay Manor. Our family had two rooms, a suite with a hot tub outside which was very private and relaxing in the evenings. The other was upstairs, an elegant room with a terrace. The wall paper was lovely and really added to the aesthetic of the rooms. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was fantastic with a great shower with awesome water pressure. The food was incredible! We knew it would be good but it exceeded our expectations. The staff were friendly although for a small luxury hotel some could use some more training, however it didn’t reduce our experience. We had a great time, the fireplaces, lounge and dining rooms were beautiful. There are walks right out the front door to explore the lakes and I would definitely recommend staying here for a luxury lakes experience.Rooms: Charming and comfortable.Walkability: Beautiful walks from the hotel.Food & drinks: Incredible food!”

“Thoroughly enjoyed my wee stay at Skelwith Bridge Hotel. I needed a short getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life and my stay here was worth the trip. The room was super cosy upon arrival and I was able to check in early despite being half an hour early which was so nice and welcoming. The location is excellent for walks and close to Ambleside. The breakfasts were a great start to my day. The hotel lobby has a very helpful cabinet full of leaflets and walking guides which I found super helpful. Plenty of parking at the hotel with front and rear car parks. I also appreciated having actual room keys, as I find the electronic room card keys you often get a real pain as they can be easily deactivated when stored closely to electronic devices. I noticed a lot of reviews mention the lack of signal reception, but for me personally, this was not a problem as I do not watch television when I'm on a walking holiday. (I actually stored the room's television in the wardrobe during my stay.) The view from my room was stunning, and I could clearly see the sunrise and sunset. In addition the hotel's wifi is excellent so you are able to make calls via Whatsapp and not use up your data. Would highly recommend this hotel, particularly as a solo traveller I felt that all my needs were met. If you're looking for a quiet and peaceful place to stay in the Lake District then this would be the place.Rooms: Clean, cosy and comfortable.Nearby activities: Close proximity to AmblesideWalkability: Great location for walks”

“As a timeshare owner's guest regularly since 1989 and as a timeshare owner myself for 10+ years, this is a little piece of heaven on earth. A few years ago the public areas of the hotel and lodges were starting to look a little tired. But the refurbishment of both has been spectacular and brought back the feeling of luxury and calm. For me, the lodges feel like home and holiday at the same time. I doubt you could stay anywhere better in the Lake District.”

“Great place to stay of you want to be bang right in the centre of Ambleside to enjoy all the restaurants they have to offer. Food at the actual place of lovely as well. The Hosts couldn't do enough to make your stay enjoyable. It was nice and clean with coffee making facilities and even have an Iron and Ironing board in your room which is rare these days. Was so quiet in the evening and you wouldn't think you were staying about the pub/restaurant. Would stay again no shadow of a doubt”
