Fantastic historical and romantic place for a short break,
Spoilt itself by putting a service charge on drinks at the bar !!!

We were really looking forward to returning to Peckforton Castle after attending a lovely wedding here a few years ago, but sadly our stay was disappointing.
Our first room was damp, musty, and smelt strongly of sewage. The bathroom had mould, and there were clumps of body hair in the corners. Fixtures and fittings were very tired and worn. By the second night the smell was unbearable, but thankfully reception staff were excellent and quickly moved us to a much cleaner room.
Food was the biggest letdown. Dinner in the Brasserie looked nice but tasted poor and mass-produced ? the aubergine starter was undercooked, the dessert tasteless, and the mains felt more like reheated pub meals than restaurant quality. Breakfast wasn?t much better: overcooked eggs, porridge that was lukewarm but served in a scorching hot bowl (and I was told to carry it over to the continental section myself as they couldn?t provide honey or sugar at the table), plus avocado that tasted like supermarket guacamole rather than the advertised smashed fresh avocado ? disappointing, especially as it was charged as an additional cost. After one poor dinner and one poor breakfast, we chose to eat out locally the next day, which was far better.
The staff throughout ? reception, bar, and restaurant ? were genuinely brilliant: helpful, friendly, and professional. The service was a highlight in what was otherwise a very underwhelming stay.

Lovely for a wedding setting, which is what we came for. We stupidly opted to stay, at £200 a night. The standard of the rooms is not up to the amount being charged. Holes in the carpet and filthy bathroom. The mattress must have been older than me because it was like sleeping on a water bed. Oh, and they wanted to charge a further cost for a cot for our baby ?
We reported our concerns. Of course the castle was full so no other room could be offered. They didn?t try to offer a discount, just asked for the photos to be sent to their email. They didn?t bother replying after they were sent a formal complaint.
Oh and breakfast. Watery, tasteless eggs royale which has a supplement of £6. And to top it all off, we had the runs for 2 days after visiting.
Don?t bother with staying or eating. Just be there for your mates big day.
Service is 3 because the wedding coordinators were very good. Reception staff, useless.

Beautiful wedding venue, the communal areas all gorgeous. However the condition of our room, plus at least 1 other left a lot to be desired for the price. Curtain linings torn, visible dust ingrained along Curtain at least a foot from the floor. Furniture in keeping with castle theme, however very tired looking. Floor tiles in bathroom cracked. On a positive note, the bed was comfortable.
Service in general was slow, and inconsistent, varying from day to day.
Ordered two glasses of prosecco, was informed after 20 minutes they had run out after a wedding 3 days previously!
As stated, the wedding was beautiful, the castle picturesque, the rooms were disappointing.

Well, what can I say, we booked through Groupon for a Saturday stay. Week before they emailed to cancel because there was a flood. We rebooked and were upgraded to an executive room. This was for one of the hotest days of the year. We arrived and checked in. We were told a room as they were named. Went to the room and couldnt gain access, after multiple cards issued we found out this wasn't our room and it was the room next door. After gaining access we found the room was astonishingly hot. We checked the temp in the room and it was 28 degrees, we checked for a fan and none was present.
We made our way down to grab a drink and after being told we only had the lounge behind reception for a drink as everything else was shutting or non accessible and we settled in. We had an allowance for the brasserie and waited until our time access. We went for our meal at the alloted time. We sat down and ordered our meal. This was taking a while and as there was a big party we were told it would take a while for our food to arrive. Whilst waiting they sent some breads and olives, complements of the chef. We ate and asked for the bill. We found they had added the complimentary olives and breads to our bill. After a bit of discussion they removed these.
We enjoyed our night and through a few discussion with staff we found out there hadn't been a flood! Our reservation was cancelled because the BBC was filming and required some rooms. This obviously upset us.
The worst was to come, when heading upto the room, the heat in the room was unbearable. It had reached 29 degrees and no sign of a fan. Reception was empty and a very awkward night entailed.
Next morning came for breakfast. After being shown to our table we headed for the buffet, on this there was no juice present. There was no water at the table or buffet either. We requested a drink and it took 20 minutes for any fluid to arrive. We saw one lady standing at the kitchen and asking for a drink at one point. Ive never seen a breakfast where water or juice wasn't readily available. After our breakfast we checked out and passed our concerns onto the receptionist.
Overall we felt we were just a second class residents who weren't as important as the BBC and no thought was given to the room and guests were supposed cope in that heat.

1851 restaurant food came out on cold plates. Service was terrible for a fine dining restaurant. I had a empty glass for most of the meal no one asked if I would like another drink. Overall poor service for a prestigious hotel.

Reading the reviews, when you complain it looks like these get ignored. I treated my parents to a meal at your restaurant over the weekend, for the food to come out cold. Dirty forks and glasses on the table. Customers waiting over an hour to be served. I have emailed, called and messaged. Even sent a photo of the dirty forks. If they'd of had an explanation and an apology I probably wouldn't of written this, but the fact we've been completely ignored is very poor.

We stayed at Peckforton Castle for one night (24/11/24) our room was 402 which is the furthest away from reception and a climb. On the top floor. We booked the 1851 restaurant to celebrate my birthday. The service was painfully slow. We retired to bed but we're awoken every hour to 3am because the laundry room somewhere below us was working and a spinning machine was just banging relentlessly. This started again at 7am.
Stay spoiled, staff great but Hotel was stretched, weddings over people!!

The rooms are spacious and are very clean but the rooms on the first floor are getting ready for an update being a little tired in places. The food in the 1851 restaurant is very good with a decent selection. Breakfast is good quality and it is nice to be served. You help yourself to continental which, I feel, could have more choice.
All the staff are polite, courteous and helpful. The hotel and grounds are well kept. A stay here is recommended.

Went for afternoon tea. Very quiet with zero atmosphere. Staff seem completely disinterested. Food was limited and just Ok, not worth the journey.

Just had a wonderful 1 nights stay at Peckforton and everything was spot on. Spacious room, lovely staff and the food was delicious. Really can't think of anything negative as it was perfect. Thank you ?
Rooms: Room was spacious and really nicely decorated. Bed was super comfortable.
