i am a residential support worker in swindon and was out with a child today to get as much advise and information about rabbit upkeep and care. we first went to paradise pets which was okay but we did feel rushed through the information so unable to jot everything down. i called Pets at home ahead of arriving and spoke with collin about the purpose of todays visit which he assured he woukd be able to help with. once we arrived we was shown around all the materials we'd need and the costs but beyond that the young lady gave us so much useful insight into caring for rabbits and really went beyond the line of duty to make sure we had as much information as possible. as a support worker its sometimes hard to get this support from big companies however today we really got a person centred approach and i want to just say how gratefull we are to the team at Pets at Home and particualry the young lady that provided great insight into rabit upkeep. thanks so much guys

The staff are always very friendly with our dogs, get them seen same day when they can and they always try to double up the appointments when both dogs need to be seen so we don't need to make multiple trips.

Truly awful experience yesterday picking up a lone rat from the adoption centre. (Which shouldn't have been allowed in the first place, they are social creatures and keeping them on their own is abusive, they should have taken both rats back by the original owner who didn't want her).
The staff obviously didn't care about stressing her out and were chasing her around the cage despite me asking them to stop and that I would be happy to wait and let her get into the carrier in her own time with food enticements.
Instead of letting her chill out for 15 minutes like I suggested multiple times, she called over the manager (who has worked there for 20 years and is 'good with rats' who proceeded to chase her even more brutally until she was picking her up by the end of the tail to put her in the carrier.
This is really dangerous as it can cause deglovement which can lead to tail amputation. The manager was then bitten badly and I can't say I blame the rat. Ended up with a strangers blood on me and the carrier which is disgusting. I hope the bite was a lesson to look at the body language when they are explicitly telling you no.
She had given so many warning signs and has blatantly been treated poorly by the previous owner and is suffering from the poor care that pets at home and the rodent mills give their small animals. Thanks a bunch for reinforcing that human hands will force you into situations you don't like and will hurt you. I'm sure that is going to make the bonding process easier for me.
I am honestly so appalled by my experience yesterday I left the shop crying and extremely stressed out and will be taking this further. I was in no rush and completely happy to entice her out in her own time but the staff and manager were insistent on getting her out ASAP to the detriment of the rat's wellbeing.
I already know to never support the live pets part of pets at home due to the poor genetics and little care given to them but I wanted to get this lone rat out of this situation. It could not have gone worse tbh. I'm upset and completely livid at the staff, manager & pets at home as a whole.
