I had arranged with the nice friendly chap who dropped off a digger back at Jewsons on my way to work Monday morning (full stars for the delivery guy - he was very nice and cheerful and helpful hence three stars and not nil overall) . The guy who delivered the machine said the office opened at 7am and I could drop the key there if I wanted. So I turned up to drop the key off at 7am - tool hire section in darkness, but the main gates were open and the shop door had a sign proclaiming that 'we are open but doors are stiff so pull apart' - I could not open them. Then a chap at the back came to the doors and told me they open at 7:30. I was on my way to work and could not delay for half an hour and I explained I had been told 7am to drop the key, so he told me to drop the key in next door to a man at the sales office (which was indeed open). I went to the office and apologised (even though the situation was not my fault) to the man in the office for being earlier than 7:30am and tried to explain I had been told the office was open at 7am to drop the key off, but could not get a word in much beyond the apology before he barked at me wearing a furious expression that they were shut and not open until 7:30 - what a rude and wretched man! Its just lucky that he was up there all alone - how miserable it would be to have to work in the office with someone who so clearly has no idea how to be polite and pleasant! I passed the key to him finally being able to finish my sentence to explain why I was early; he did not even bother to look at me - he just took it and spat out 'thank you' in a very curt tone. He may have been put out by having to deal with a customer before 7:30, but I was only doing what I had been told I could. I was pretty upset by the whole incident and feel that a bit of customer service training would not go amiss for people such as that obnoxious man - and to think he was in the 'sales office'! You cannot measure the sales you have not made, and with his attitude a multitude of sales have probably been lost.
