What a beautiful place.
I stayed here for one night, & was extremely happy with my choice.
My room was upgraded as the inn was quiet that night; It was very spacious, up in the eves under the thatched roof, so kept its cool temperature on a hot night (& presumably would be warm on cold nights)
It was tastefully decorated- a minimal but elegant country look. The bed was so comfortable that I had to look up the make of the bedding so I could buy it myself. Lightweight feather duvet, crisp white linen & fat squidgy feather pillows.
Even the tea & coffee facilities were lovely; fresh milk in a little flask, glass bottled water & home made cookies.
I had dinner here which was dreamy. They had restaurant tables set outside, under a tented canopy. I managed to nab a spot right by the neighbouring fields, & ate while watching the sun set.
The food was fantastic; I went with a roast pork loin (?) with a glass of rosé, followed by a chocolate brownie & a glass of red. Very good indeed
My only tiny niggle was the noise from the pub downstairs which would be a problem had I gone to bed early, or it was cooler & more were inside. Voices were very clear.
All in all, I loved this place. A lot.

Fanastic gastropub with daily changing local menu in a lovely setting. Daily changing menu, friendly staff and the food is absolutely divine.

The Compasses Inn is everything that a good, English country pub should be; well-maintained, local beers served in a lovely setting; providing good, unpretentious food that is well-prepared, using great, local ingredients and served with care. The menu is (thankfully) not too big but still contains something, often with a twist, for most tastes. The staff are attentive without being intrusive and are always friendly. In Winter, it is dark and (mostly) cosy - there are a couple drafty spots near the ancient, ill fitting windows - with roaring fires, and in Summer the el fresco dining provides the perfect location for leisurely lunches or to while away an afternoon against a bucolic backdrop.

Such a gem of a pub- delicious food and a really cosy setting in the midst of the countryside, with some really charming villages on the drive there! The building itself is full of history/character. Perfect place for a Sunday roast or a cosy dinner by the fire, or even to finish up after a long walk!

We had a cracking lunch at The Compasses. Great service. Super food. Lamb rump with beans and salsa. I had a fish pie. We both had puddings. Cotleigh on tap in great order and pot of tea afterwards.
It's a country pub with fantastic character. Very few lunching on a Wednesday. Hard to get to but worth the effort.

Popped in for dinner as it came highly recommended, especially the food. It didn't disappoint. Very friendly, service and atmosphere was great. We sat outside and the views are beautiful. The food was delicious, the wines were also very enjoyable and affordable. We want to come back and stay so we can sit in the pub without worrying about driving home!
