We went with our extended family to this pub. As a collective there are a lot of allergies and dietary requirements which is always difficult to cater for, however these guys were excellent. Had clearly been very well trained on dealing with different allergies and were more than happy to help.
The kids loved the play area and were happy to be running back and forth.
The staff were friendly and brought the drinks to table so that we didn?t have to wait around for pints topping up as they could see we had a few kids with us.
Location wise this is great. You can happy stroll out into Thornes Park which has gardens, duck pond, skate park and another play park.

Utterly shambolic booking experience. Tried to book on the phone but could not get anyone to answer so ended up booking on line for 10 people. Was told someone would get back to me within 24 hrs to confirm the booking but no one did. Then 2 days later I called at 9pm at night and managed to speak to someone and secure a booking on Sunday 2pm for 10. Two days later I get an email confirming Sunday 1.30pm for 10 despite booking for 2pm. Called the Holmfield arms and spoke to someone who advised the booking was for 1.30pm. I said I?d booked it for 2pm. She then rings me back to confirm 2pm. Within minutes I get an email confirming 2pm for 10 people and within less than a minute receive another email confirming the 2pm booking was cancelled. I called yet again to be assured the booking was for 2pm for 10 people. On the Sunday, the day we were going, I get an email saying I have a booking at 2pm but only for 9 people now. Beyond appalling experience. On the day it took over 2 hours to be served starters and lunch. Appreciate it was Sunday and busy but still a long wait. Food was good when it arrived but overall I don?t think we will be going to the Holmfield Arms again.

So i have only gave 3 stars instead of 5 because , I came in on the Saturday and me and my kids and my cousin ate and it was lovely food and big portions , because I was impressed , I returned today on the Sunday and I was just so disappointed I got a trio of roast Sunday dinner , and when it came it looked like a child's portion and I was left feeling hungry and disappointed it had 1 carrot 1 piece of broccoli 1 roast potatoe 1 of each meat and a Yorkshire pudding but honestly my kids eat more than the portion I was given it was just so small and like I said I was left feeling hungry and felt like I had been robbed

Asked for steak cooked medium rare came out well done. A real shame because it was great here, but really gone down hill. Been waiting one hour for a dessert. We come here quite often and usually really enjoy it however it really was not a good trip this time. Extremely disappointed!

We recently stayed at the hotel and made use of the bar and restaurant. We really enjoyed our stay, the room, twin bed with level access bathroom. We travelled by train, using assisted travel, arriving at Wakefield Westgate, then a taxi to the hotel. On arrival we received a warm and friendly welcome. Our room was warm, comfortable and exceptionally clean. The level access bathroom was superb, a very powerful shower, a good range of grab rails, I do think it does need one between the toilet and sink. There is a boxed unit from the floor up to the height of the sink, having no grab rail on the left there as well as the fold away toilet rail type on the right side is a bit of a struggle. Both the shower and sink have press dispensers, the shower one is filled with body and hair shampoo, the sink has liquid soap, neither are messy and always filled. A short distance to the restaurant and bar, again we received a warm and friendly welcome from the staff. Food was excellent, delicious and well presented, very reasonably priced, a good choice throughout the menu; without it being overwhelming. The portions are very generous. The restaurant can and does get busy, the team of staff are to be applauded for their attention, friendly approach, professionalism, all working as a team and no matter how busy the restaurant is the staff never seem phased, the service is of the highest standard. We had breakfast included in our 5 day stay at the hotel. A warm and cheery welcome from the breakfast host, directs you to the continental self service area, once settled at your table you can place your order from the varied breakfast menu. The choice and variety is amazing, exceptional value and delicious. There were three events in the marquee over the weekend, a birthday, a wedding and a christening. As a guest of the hotel and using the restaurant for our evening meal you would not have known there were celebrations going on, the restaurant maintains the same high standard of service. We were very pleasantly surprised that any noise from the celebrations isn?t heard within our room. In the morning the caretaker and garden staff are preparing the grounds and play area for a new day of welcoming visitors, everywhere is well maintained, again, you would not have known there was an event the night before, everything was ready for the day ahead. The team of housekeeping and cleaning staff do a magnificent job of keeping everything fresh and exceptionally clean. The pub and hotel is situated within a large wooded area and grounds, perfect for a pleasant stroll or walking the dog(s) We used Taxis for getting around, to visit Wakefield museum, the arts house and Wakefield cathedral. We also visited the Yorkshire sculpture park. We were very grateful to our taxi driver who went out of his way to accommodate us getting there and back. Thank you to all the staff at The Holmfield Arms and hotel for looking after us so well.

Clean rooms.
Great facilities.
Staff 1st class and food in the bar are really nice with a good range to choose from.
Could do with more tea, sugar, and milk in the room, but I say that about everywhere, lol

A great location, lots of free parking. Staff very friendly, loads of indoor seating areas. Beer prices average, they also serve food but haven?t tried it yet. We?ll be back.

The food was not up to standard and the beds were not comfortable. If it had not been for Ryan the morning supervisor trying to sort everything out, our stay would have been a disaster. Unfortunately I cannot recommend

No hand pulled beers at all, so had to have a pint of water as an alternative to lager being the only option ???

Would 100% recommend this place, morgan and ryan are definitely my favourite people, make me want to come back every time.
