“Great variety of books from art and design, history, travel and non fiction. The stock is second hand but have never had an issue with items being damaged or in poor condition.”

“We visited to see Dirty Honey in the Stylus. The venue is within the student union building. Stylus is an impressive venue with very good acoustics. A balcony surrounds the stage on three sides so viewing is quite extensive. It is like stepping back to the 70's when this style of venue was the mainstay of the rock music evolution. Long may it survive. An enjoyable evening in such familiar surroundings.”

“Well well well, Cross Gates. It seems as though we are going to have to make friends, no? What with your array of charity shop delights along one small street! Yep, and the British Heart Foundation is another of many which pleased me so greatly on my premier trip to Cross Gates of Leeds. The store itself was nicely tidy and easy to browse, with the exception of some of the clothes near the window. All the size 8s were packed virtually behind their window display and behind where the door needed to open so that was a bit tricksy for me to get in there! Nevertheless, as a hardened charity shopper I was determined to browse, and browse I did! One of the main featured bargains seemed to be their many luggage holders, suitcases and the like, all on display at cheaper (by a few pounds at least) than Priceless Shoes just nearby. So cheap, it seems, that one was snapped up even as I browsed! They had the standard gemstone jewellery on display too - something unique to BHF as I've seen a few with this, which is lovely too. They've all kinds of different gemstone necklaces and other bits in rose quartz, amethyst and more! Their other main feature seemed to be a pretty substantial shoe display, again potentially to compete with Priceless Shoes, and there was certainly a good range on show! Other cool oddments, such as decent mirrors, books, wedding hats and so on, were available too. I went away really pleased having found myself a pure silk Jaeger long suit jacket - which is utterly gorgeous - for only £4.50. Bargains ahoy! Staff were totally lovely too. Bonus!”

“We have purchased various items from Emmaus over the years & always impressed at what they have available, & the good quality of the stock. They also deliver large items, within Leeds, for only £10. This may have increased, but that's what we last paid. Everyone working there is always friendly & helpful. They are a brilliant organisation doing great work.”

“There is something about charity shops that makes me feel good. I'm not sure whether it's the bargains, or the pleasure in seeing stuff being given a new life, it might be just that it enables me to feel good about myself..... BHF is one of my regular charities so i try to call in and have a browse rarely leaving without treasure, this branch always has a good selection and the staff seem very pleasant.”

“Of all the Charities that I have supported this remains my #1. So important to help the homeless and those fallen on hard times. We all walk along (or by) nonchalantly, through life (and past the Homeless in the streets) until, out of the blue, something comes totally left field and knocks you off your feet. Lots of peeps caught like that. Please help them. Tx”

“Much, much nicer than the Oxfam close by, in that it's really well stocked and there's been some thought put into how the clothes are displayed and laid out. Plenty of books too. Knocked a star off though because a knitted Bench scarf was £4 which despite being is pretty steep in my book. OK, I know it's for charity, but I'm a pretty seasoned charity shop shopper and I know what's good value and what's not. And that's not. Sort out your pricing and you'll get another star!”

“I like this charity shop because there's always really friendly staff on (the NSPCA shop next door has a grumpy lady in, and not as many nice clothes). Also, there are plenty of books, and they put them in alphabetical order, which is a ncie touch. For Valentine's Day, you can have a message written on a heart-shaped card and stuck in the window for a £1 (or £2 for the big hearts if you're feeling generous and super romantic).”

“Wouldn’t be where we are today without the amazing team at Barnados Yorkshire. From start to finish in our adoption journey they made it as pain free as possible. Couldn’t recommend highly enough, there are so many children out there looking for their forever home, and us our forever family, which we now have thanks to Barnados. xxx”
