Went for an evening meal. Great location but food and service were just ok. Had halibut. Wasn't bad just not worth the money. The service wasn't bad either just missing some enthusiasm. To sum up all a bit flat.

Had a Sunday roast, 2x lamb came without the potatoes (pomme puree), queried it, were told both were the same according to the chef- they were, both served without? the waiters weren?t familiar with dishes, and were caught in the middle.
Others in the group had pork, which was dry, one asked for well done beef, both were.
Could be quickly improved if the team were trained up better and more responsive to questions rather than giving a ???????????????
A smile wouldn?t go amiss, team looked pretty miserable, only one I got was a weak one when I mentioned the omission from the dish.

I?m in this area regular. Stopped in for coffee Sunday morning after walking the dog.
It was like they were preparing for a wake not Sunday dinner. Really unfriendly atmosphere. Felt unwelcome, no choice of where to sit, seated 2 feet from the bar. Drank my coffee and couldn?t wait to leave.
If you?re spending a bomb on staying there and eating I guess they?d be really friendly. It?s not genuine.

Solid four stars. Ideal for a quick lunchtime pint. Lovely setting just outside Hathersage, traditional and smart interior. Not as foreboding for only a drink as some of the 'restaurant' pubs that populate Hathersage itself.
Marston Pedigree was bob on.

Really enjoying our stay here at The Plough. The rooms/ beds are very comfortable, staff very friendly and a good hot shower. There is a good selection of TV channels and also tea/ coffee making facilities with plenty of storage space too.The breakfasts are really good and we've enjoyed our evening meals heretoo. The only slightly negative is it's a little out of the village but as you come here for a walking holiday anyway it's not a problem.

food beautiful but the lady server this evening very rude and abrupt like it was to much.we are paying customers what's the problem !! asked us if we'd like sauces and turned her back and walked away didn't let us all finish answering. young gentleman was happy to fetch a sauce .The lady server took my mothers cutlery away even though all 3 of us who where dining where having a meal.Made us feel uncomfortable and out of place we had been swimming in Hathersage open pool and stopped off for an evening meal to be looked down her nose at us totally un called for beautiful pub and food shame 1 person can spoil such a lovely place

When a friend was struggling in the extreme heat, and no transport options were available, Diane at The Plough kindly offered to taxi our friend back to their car. Thank you so much - a lovely pub run by really lovely people.

We had a super time staying in one of the Shepherds huts in the garden. Well equipped room. Clean and comfortable. Staff couldnt be more friendly. 20 min easy walk into Hathersage. Food and drink were excellent and reasonably priced. Good location to explore the Peak District with good walks from the pub, and not far to other great locations.
