This was the second time we tried out Toby Carvery both times were at the same branch in Crawley. The first time we went as a party of 6 and were seated in the main part of the restaurant. I was impressed by how spacious the place felt. The atmosphere was also good, it felt very much like dining in a barn feeling. On that particular visit , the food was mediocre at best but we decided to give it another go as there had been an offer on.
On our most recent visit which was on a Tuesday as a party of 4. we were seated not in the main area . Straight away the atmosphere felt different. The food itself was worse than ever. The meat portions were tiny compared to the pictures I see on reviews of other restaurant locations. Help yourself vegetables . . . Everything tasted bland and mushy. I thought of hospital food right away. Why is there a need to over cook the vegetables? They tasted the same both times the same tasteless but mushier!
My only items acceptable were the roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding!
What amazed me was that they were busy. There were customers coming in constantly which I do not know why!
Customer service was good. Our server was pleasant , no complaints about that.

It was disappointing visit. Honestly we will not be going there again, might try other Tobys at other locations in the future but Crawley ? . . . NO.

Ok...little confusing when presented with the card reader..only option was a 5, 10, 15 or 'other' % tip. We didn't want to tip as it was a carvery and we got our own drinks and food, but when 'other' was pressed there was no.option to not leave a tip. Very weird, others having same experience.

Lovely venue, felt comfortable and homely
1st meal after getting back from NYC and perfect for a long sleep ready for a drive back to Northumberland the next morning.
Wish there was more choice of veg there was no broccoli and parsnips which are my fave so deducted a star otherwise was perfect.
Service was ok nothing special, young lady made it a little awkward and didn't explain you pay at the end once you've eaten so we were left a little confused sat there for 5-10 minutes wondering if we just go up and get our carvery (which you do). So once again little deduction for that ... Sorry ?
Would definitely go again if ever in the area.

Been a few times so far in 2025 and i cant really complain, food has been really decent and a wide range of veg and potatoes followed by condiments. Toilets ares both ends, wide walk ways between tables and pricing is very fair. All round a decent experience and will definitely be booking again soon.

Excellent carvery meals but one of our five desserts was very disappointing.
Parking: We have never had a problem parking at this Toby.
