Basic hygiene issues
I?m not usually one for writing negative reviews. In fact, this is only my second - the first involved a double glazing scam, which should give you a sense of the bar. But here we are.
My colleague and I were served our drinks in a visibly dirty glass. Not just a smudge, but something you?d expect to be picked up before it left the bar. When I pointed it out, I wasn?t met with an apology or a fresh drink, but told it ?wasn?t dirt, just needed polishing? ? and that polishing apparently happens ?once a month, because they own a lot of glasses.?
Now, I?m all for low-maintenance routines, but monthly glass polishing feels like a bold take on basic hygiene. No apology, no replacement, just a vague sense that I was being a bit moany for expecting, well, cleanliness.
I don?t like to complain, and I certainly don?t want to be that person - but I also don?t think a clean glass is too much to ask.
Shame, as it?s close to work. Me and my colleagues were seriously unimpressed, and now unlikely to return.

Great pub but they twice let us choose without telling us all the items on the menu that were unavailable.

Nice local pub, good choice of beer.

Dreadful place. Arrived at 8pm to be told kitchen closed. Went somewhere else for dinner and then back for a drink.
Arrived the second time at 9:30pm with a closing time of 11pm. We were served and then told as soon as we sat down that we had 5 minutes to drink it as they were closing early. If they'd told me that I'd have gone elsewhere and not stayed. They were locking up whilst we were drinking so had had to down it and leave. Terrible place and won't be back.

I visited this pub tonight to support my Son's band who were hoping to play the Open Mic Evening. They are all under 18 and had contacted the pub ahead of the event to see if this would be an issue and was told it would be find. They signed up to play the event without any problem, but were then told just minutes before the event was due to start that couldn't do it because under 18's aren't allowed in the pub after 7pm. I have previously held a licence and normally 9pm is the watershed for under 18's. I just felt this was really unfair and that the only thing they had done wrong was being young. Anyway, I had gone along to support a great event and in turn support a local pub, but ended up having to deal with disappointed teenagers. Needless to say, I won't be back and thats a shame because it's a nice pub and the staff are brilliant, no issue either with the house band either who are also brilliant.

Good pub lunch. Would prefer some real ales, London Pride or Abbots etc

Very poor experience. The barman was rude, uninterested and confrontational. Shame, as there is a good selection of ales available.

This used to be one of my favourite places to spend an evening in Chi, and as someone with a bad intolerance their gluten free options used to be very good.
Unfortunately, during my first visit with new management, after being assured by multiple members of staff that the vegan dirty fries were gluten free, I was served a gluten containing dish and became very sick.
One member of staff was incredibly helpful and got me a refund (I didn't get her name but she had a blonde pony tail) the other began to treat my friends like they were a problem and made the evening sour.
Incredibly disappointing

This place has great beer and should
be a winner but the bar staff: OMG.
You wait ages to be served, only to soak up a bunch of attitude and then they call last orders at 10 pm. Every Thursday when the pub is still half full. Really? At these prices? I don't know who is managing this bunch of jokers but if the Big Smoke Brewing Company still own it, they need to come down and sort this. So sad: great pub ruined by crappy staff.

To be greeted by an open log fire on a damp autumn day was a welcome pleasure and individual staff were pleasant, although the overall atmosphere felt a little impersonal. Food was good home cooked style but nothing stood out on the menu as thrilling. A modern bar suited to younger customers.

Very rude staff?. They don?t allow any menonites, or anyone not ?English/british? in the pub
Wheelchair accessibility: No accessibility visible

Gutted to hear the changes have come at the cost of a loss!
I hope the atmosphere is as welcomed as always before. Big socks to fill.

As a frequent visitor of this establishment I must say I feel like the pub is swiftly going down hill. What used to be a fantastic environment has now been sullied by poor painting/ extremely tacky decor. The pub now feels like a boring museum.
The staff are amazing, super attentive. The assistant manager Charlee is a delight to be around and I will always giver her a tip. Shame about this place.
