Visited the Merry Hill Store, Brierley Hill on Friday 3 January 2025.
Wanted to make a purchase using a
Makeawish Gift card that my son had received for Christmas.
The card had the Argos symbol on the front but I still asked a member of staff who was round by the order screens if I was able to use in this particular store ....
She looked at the card and said yes, but I would have to register the code first on the back of the card and which store I was making my purchase
Went away did all the necessary checks put in the code and went back to the till to make my order.
As it happened to be the same staff member who I asked about using the same gift card.
She immediately informed me that she had never dealt with one of these cards and would have to ask "a young member of staff"?as she was not very computer/technical minded ?? A young lad came over then said that he to had never had to deal with gift card and his words "haven't got a clue" then just walked off ??
I was now 20:mins in with a Queue of 6/7 people waiting to be served and only 2 tills working ...
she then said having read the card several times ...Oh you can only use this card to order online !!!!!
In all honesty this is where I was getting angry ...I said "that didn't make sense " but ok ...
So I stood in front of her with my phone put in the order (like I'd ordered online )????? and still it didn't work ....
By this point 30/35 mins in I got the feeling she was just saying anything because she wanted rid of me and the whole situation... And which she boldly and openly announced to her colleague on the next checkout ...
" I'm finished at 2,0,clock so when I'm finished with this lady I can go " ?
So because of how long it had taken, the people in the queue who I could hear mumbling because they had been kept waiting so long, and being stood at this checkout for what was know 40 mins + ( add to which I have mobility issues and was in considerable pain having stood for so long )?
I just said forget the gift card I'll pay by bank card .... absolutely no trouble whatsoever ??So far as to say it will be a long long time before I enter Argos Merry Hill again (if ever ) And would certainly not recommend this store to anyone.
And please please can you make sure staff have simple basic training on how to use a computerized till (even if they are temporary Christmas staff)
Because the staff member who I dealt with had very very little idea of what she was doing ... and worse .... Did not care !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very unprofessional staff and store manager. I bought a tablet and the next day display was not working intermittently. I bought that tablet for my mom who is very old and and unable to walk but I took the tablet with my mom to the store and showed them the video of the problem but they did not return it and instead what they said was pathetic. They said there are finger printing marks on the screen protector. Actually when we use the tablet it leaves marks on the screen which are very normal and can easily be wiped with a plain tissue. I told them if you give me a tissue I will clean it, though some of the marks were from the staff who checked the tablet at that time.
Pathetically the staff and the store manager said that its your tablet you should have brought a tissue with you. Imagine my situation when my both mom and dad were with me and they both are disable.
I am Argos customer for years and preferred to buy things from them but yesterday i have made a promise to myself that I will not buy from argos any more particularly from this store.

Wouldn?t accept my laptop back because it wasn?t in a ?re-sellable condition? even though it was faulty. 2 ladies. The manager there said it had been turned on so couldn?t re sell it. Well obviously I have to turn it on? idiots.

Very poor customer service I'd give them 0 out of 5. Rude staff especially the old lady manager.
They don't respect the 30 days returning policy.....
Avoid this Branch/Company.

Convenient to do a click and collect but otherwise wouldn?t go in as better prices else where always seems empty

Twice now I?ve had issues with orders. I order a tv stand , got home and it had been repackaged from a return before. No instructions in the box, screws looked used from before. Got back to the store to return my purchase, and they hadn?t got any replacements in stock or a decent alternative.

I ordered a gaming screen for my son an a lovely lady called Jo pointed out the seal was broken on it and asked if I wanted to check it as there was no more in stock. Upon opening it had hands marks all over it which I think is terrible of argos to be selling on something that is stated as new but clearly been sent back by someone. Anyway Jo said I could look for another one even if it was more expensive and she would match the price for me. I went back the next day to collect it. Thanks so much Jo there should be more helpful people like you on the world as I will have a happy boy on he's birthday now .
