Omg, this bookstore was like heaven! Living in the Czech Republic, I don?t often get such a huge variety of English books, so for me it was incredible. I could easily have spent the whole day there just browsing. I even bought a game in English and a few books, and loved reading a few pages of everything that caught my eye. The selection is fantastic, with so many different genres and titles. If I?d had more time, I would have happily sat in their café and enjoyed the entire day surrounded by books. I?m super happy I found this place!

This used to be one of my favourite places to visit but has gone steadily downhill. I used to frequent their cafe often and really enjoyed the cakes there.
I have a chronic illness. It is a very unpredictable debilitating illness which causes me, among other symptoms, severe pain and fatigue. It's a bit like having every bone in your body broken. When I start to feel poorly I can't always predict how bad it will get but things like standing for a long time, walking for a long time will make it worse and the affect on my mobility will become more and more obvious as symptoms worsen. When this happens I need somewhere to sit and a drink of water so I can take painkillers if needed. I have often ended up in Waterstones cafe because of this and I thought the staff were aware of the situation due to the fact that I usually sit down and my daughter/carer is usually getting the drinks because I physically can't.
Today I had been standing in a queue at the bank due to a problem that required my immediate attention. To make matters worse it had been pouring with rain earlier and I had rushed home to change clothes only to find the weather suddenly changed and it had become sunny, dry, and quite warm. By the time I'd got done at the bank I was very tired, very warm, very thirsty, and in a lot of pain. So my daughter, son, and I went to Waterstones to get a drink of water so I could take tablets.
Unfortunately the main lift has been out of order for some time so the only lift access is that really tiny one by the cafe counter. It is nearly always full of people and I am unable to use the stairs due to my condition. After waiting for a while we finally got to the cafe and selected our drinks. We then realised there were no seats available and decided to go somewhere else. This involved waiting for the lift again only to find it was full yet again. My daughter got fed up and decided to use the stairs whilst I was stuck waiting for the lift again. So my condition was getting worse by this point, to the point where it genuinely felt I was going to collapse and I pointed out that I really couldn't take the stairs. Which the people in the lift then took as a green light to behave horribly because oh look a defective woman who is struggling to even stand up by this point, oh ha ha ha! I'm using the word 'defective' because that's usually how people like that see me. It's nothing to do with how I view disabled or chronically ill people.
By that point my daughter had got quite annoyed and wanted to have words with those people however they had gone by that time. I continued to wait for the lift and hoped I wouldn't keel over and require medical assistance. Which was becoming ever more likely as time went on.
At this point a member of staff approached us. Instead of asking if everything was okay or if they could do anything this person decided to snap at us about my daughter's language in front of children. Bearing in mind there were no children anywhere directly near us and our priority at the time was trying to get out of there without me having a medical emergency. Which we would have been able to do much sooner if they actually bothered to fix their lift, the one that has been broken for weeks.
Under the circumstances and due to the abrasive and unhelpful attitude of the staff. I am now very worried about what exactly would happen if there was a medical emergency. In particular I worry that the staff might not bother to do anything as they appear to have a very bad attitude towards chronically ill people. It's a pity because it used to be a nice little cafe.

The recent redesign of the store is like case study in how to drive people to Amazon instead. Ludicrous and idiotic.

The biggest Waterstones I've ever seen! Several floors are organised by genre and age, and there's even a cute cafe. As well as the expected fiction and non-fiction literature, graphic novels and manga, there's a surprisingly good selection of board games.

A massive book store with a fantastic collection of books set across five stories. The layout of the store is very good and it is easy to work your way around.

I had a wonderful experience at Waterstones thanks to Jon Hill. He was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, always smiling, and went out of his way to assist everyone in the store. His positive attitude and excellent service truly made my visit special. Staff like Jon make all the difference ? highly recommended!

Me and my family came here the other day and it was great. When we walked in it was tidy and neat and the staff were a pleasure. They have 5 floors and a great cafe. They have toilets and all you need to do is ask the staff for the code and a massive variety of books.
