We have been to the Horse & Jockey several times and always enjoyed the food and the experience so when friends who were visiting asked if we could suggest somewhere to go last Sunday 10th August we suggested there, I called a few days before to make a booking ( for 1.30pm -there were 7 of us) and it was all booked, we turned up and were out in the bar!!!! We were surprised as we have always been in the restaurant part- I asked if we could be moved but we?re advised it wasn?t possible - we weren?t advised when we booked that we would be in the bar- we were told by the waitress that there would be a delay on that day for the food which was nice if her to let us know, we all ordered drinks and food , drinks arrive quickly - the waitress took the food order repeated it back and it was 1 hr 10 mins later before the food arrived!!!!! She did come over several times and apologised for the delay, 6 meals arrived only , 1 had been forgotten so whilst everyone else was enjoying theirs - 1 had to wait whilst theirs was cooked - the food in general is really tasty- however one of the fish and chips had oil coming out of the batter and it was soggy and tepid at best, the homemade pie pasty was inedible so don?t order that, the pork belly was delicious and the rest of the fish and chips were too, we struggled to get the menu for the desserts and waited too long so didn?t order, it was then a wait for the bill, I asked for a credit card receipt but there was no paper and no recompense offered for the missed meal, there was only 1 staff member behind the bar and only 2 waitresses who were overstretched and couldn?t cope with the amount of people - not their fault- they tried their best but there frustration was evident - not sure what was happening in the kitchen?? the management really should have ensured more staff were on based on the bookings for that day - we would still go back as our previous experiences have always been good and would check that we are in the restaurant-but what a disappointing experience especially as we had brought visitors and recommended it.

I was very disappointed with the no food arrangement after my enquiry to ask about nibbles, drinks and booking a table for a Tuesday afternoon meetup. Not a single word that they dont serve food on a Tuesday afternoon!

We had travelled a long way with our puppy and were looking for a meal before heading to our hotel for the evening. We couldn?t have made a better choice, the service, food and atmosphere was fantastic. Thanks

Have eaten at the Horse & Jockey a couple of times now, once for a pub meal and then again for Sunday lunch. Great food on both occasions and would happily eat there again.
Fair prices, a decent menu size, piping hot food and nicely presented. Only a couple of minor issues on the recent visit - missing stuffing and slightly overdone yorkshire puddings, but into the realm of nit-picking and certainly not enough to dock a star.

I?ve had several meals here lately, most recently the Rolled Beef Brisket. I must say, it absolutely deserves 5 stars and the quality and the taste of the food really is what you?d expect in a top quality restaurant. I can?t recommend enough.

Food & service have slipped. Vegetables with Sunday lunch consists of one carrot, one parsnip & a very small bowl of cabbage. Not really good to be honest.
Service was slower than normal.
Be a while before coming back.

Well what a Rip off , used to be a real friendly pub , however when questioning the Bar Man why a dash of Blackcurrant in Tap water costs £1.80 a really unfriendly response was who cares mate I don?t set the price, even a Guinness is over the top £7.50 for a Guinness and a dash of Blackcurrant?.. What a disgrace?.?
