Everything about this restaurant is fabulous. The food, service and setting are perfect. We had the 8 course tasting menu, which was beautifully balanced, presented and delicious. The staff are incredibly attentive, knowledgable and friendly. The cured Scottish sea trout dish was one of the best things I have ever tasted. A wonderful afternoon.Dietary restrictions: Staff are happy to adapt to dietary restrictions.

This experience was a real letdown as we booked a hotel and traveled a fair distance specifically to go to the restaurant, as we'd been gifted a tasting menu experience for my partner's birthday. A few positives are definitely the location and the interior; it's quite literally on the beach and has a cozy but elegant feel. There was a nice atmosphere for a weekday as they were quite busy. The wine list is on the smaller side; however, we enjoyed the bottle we chose. We arrived at 7:15 pm, where we received a warm welcome, and the staff were generally very polite. Despite this, service was really the big issue here. I can only assume we were forgotten about after ordering cocktails, as we waited 30-40 minutes for someone to take our food order. I saw 2 tables arrive at least 10 minutes after us have their order taken and start to see dishes arriving before anyone gave us a second look. Unacceptable anywhere but really unexpected from a Michelin restaurant. Other service issues throughout the meal included empty dishes being left on the table, not wiping the table down between courses, and not topping up water, etc. Cocktails were horrendous and tasted nearly only of lemon juice (ordered the Nutty Cow, which was a black cocktail that didn't look particularly appetizing). The wrong water was brought to the table (not a big issue but another example of errors occurring on the service front). Some dishes were average, nothing to shout home about but not bad; the canapés, the artichoke, the sole, and the pork. Sadly, service continued to be unacceptably slow. I did a time check after course 2/8 and saw we had been there for 1 hour and 40 minutes; no wonder we were hungry. Course 2 was trout, which was painfully overcooked, as well as sitting in a rather uncreative creamy sauce that completely overpowered the fish; a shame for a restaurant on the coast to go so wrong on its seafood. The meat dishes were very nice; however, by the 3-hour mark, it was hard to be enthusiastic about the whole experience as I was more than a bit fed up. The standout dish of the evening was most certainly their bara brith soufflé, which tasted delicious, looked the part, and I appreciated the nod to a Welsh classic. The tea ice cream on the side could have had better flavor, but overall, it was their best dish without a doubt. We finished the night off with a cappuccino that was actually a latte and paid up. In total, the whole experience was nearly 4 hours long! The longest meal of my life despite being several courses shorter than my longest tasting menu experience. Even their own staff made it out the door before us at 11 pm. There is no doubt that for fine dining, service is as important as the food, and easily avoidable mistakes were made throughout this experience. There was no consistency regarding who was serving us, and there seemed to be a big difference in service standards between tables. I can confidently say I won't be returning, but I hope they are able to iron out these issues so that the dining experience matches its wonderful look and location.
