Great unspoilt location nestled in the heart of North Wales. You can drive/cycle up to the waterfalls at the north end of the lake, and do watersports at the boathouse about 20 mins walk away over the bridge. We also used it as a base to go to Portmeirion and Zipworld.
The food was very good, spa was amazing with great views. They limit the number of guests to the spa with prior booking which is good, I've been in other places where they are too busy and not relaxing. We also tried the clay pigeon shooting in the hotel grounds one morning which was good fun.
The hotel is not in a modern style, but in my opinion that's what gives it its charm. It's clean and comfortable, and as you walk around you can see the old features and history in the walls and can imagine all the guests who have passed through over the past 150 years or so.
I'd highly recommend the mini moon package (it doesn't have to be your honeymoon!). This includes spa entry each day, breakfast, £35 per person towards dinner, and champagne and chocolates in your room. If you break it down this is fantastic value, and made the stay extra special.

No place like this with an awesome view of the reservoir!

Lovely old school hotel in a beautiful location. Missed out on the reservoir view room but the garden view room was comfortable, clean and well organised.

Lake Vyrnwy is absolutely stunning. A truly picturesque spot that?s perfect for a relaxing visit. The views across the lake are breathtaking, especially from the hotel, which sits in a prime position overlooking the water. The hotel itself is charming, with a lovely atmosphere and outdoor seating that makes the most of the scenery. Drinks are reasonably priced, which is a pleasant surprise given the location, and the service is friendly and welcoming. Whether you're just stopping by for a drink or staying longer, the experience is relaxing and memorable. Highly recommended for the views alone!

Friendly, helpful and professional team offering a warm welcome to pleasant surroundings. The food was good on first night, but not quite up to scratch on the second, as with breakfast on our final morning. However every chef deserves a day off and it is important to encourage other members of the team to develop their skills.
We will certainly return later this year, and enjoy our stay in this beautiful part of Wales.
Well Done the Team

We have just returned from our 2 night minimoon and it was exactly what we needed. We had a lake view with a balcony which gave us spectacular views and the weather meant we could relax and enjoy them! Our dog was made to feel extremely welcome and room 3 was ideally placed so we could take him out for a walk in the grounds really easily. The breakfast trays are a fab idea on the tables in addition to the cooked breakfasts. We used room service as well as the restaurant and on both occasions the evening meals were delicious. Access to the spa was also included in our package so I got to use the steam room, sauna and spa pool. Thank you for an amazing stay.

If this was in a field without the view you would not spend the amount of money it does to stay here. There is a lot of work required to the building and rooms. The lake view rooms have outstanding views but the windows are rotten, the doors swollen to the balconies, the decking needs sanding and treating....the pillows are also lumpy. My dog loved it!
However, the staff are awesome and the food is good quality, particularly the starters!! Go for the view!

Lovely location, hotel rooms need a little care and maintenance, spectacular views from the lakeside rooms, breakfast is amazing lots to choose from and great size portions, dinner is expensive and portion size is small but taste is excellent. the service from restaurant staff is a little lacking in attention and very slow. Reception staff are lovely.

Staying in a spa hotel.
4 parts to the stay
Room: acceptable, old building so a fair walk to it. Superior lake view room has a nice balcony with great views over the lake.
Dinner: great overall 3 course. Very nice
Breakfast: terrible, plate sent back and no one even asked why or if I?d like anything else. Wife also left most of hers.
Spa: you book a spa hotel but don?t even have access to the basic facilities of jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. SHAMBOLIC.
So out of the 4 aspects they scraped a 2 given we booked the best room.
5/10 overall score which is where the hotel probably ranks.
Won?t look to return which is a real shame given the location.

I just had the most gorgeous visit to the Spa? super relaxing jacuzzi, stunning view of the lake, followed by possibly the best massage I?ve ever had. Glorious little touches, wonderful experience from start to finish. Highly recommend.
