A proud part of Pontypridd history. Great, homely, freshly-made food from pies to sandwiches to roast dinners. And a huge, yummy cake selection.Afternoon tea is huge and great value... get a doggy bag!

Very busy shop, which is an indication of a good place. I?ve been here numerous times never had a complaint until recently. I had a corned beef pasty and there was a hair inside it. It?s a shame because I really liked them but it?s put me off

Called in for a snack.Very busy, with it being a Wednesday (market day) so we went upstairs.Excellent service. Definitely worth a visit if you?re a visitor to Pontypridd.Early morning the window is full of a delightful array of cakes to eat in or take home.

A family friend recommended that I try freshly baked pies in this country when I visited the UK for the first time. Thus, while this was my first few days at the university at Treforest, visited Pontypridd town centre and learned about this local bakery/cafe which serves fresh pies. I had Chicken Pie, Vegan pie, and Chicken Makhani pie. And it wouldn't be wrong if I said, these were the best pies ever. My favourite is though Chicken pie. Their desserts are classics and to die for. They are also famous for the freshly baked patties - the size of their patties is huge - one patty indeed is equal as one meal.If you wish to enjoy the local food, this indeed is the one-stop solution.

My best strawberry tart experience! Would recommend to all for a wave of nostalgia and strawberry dreams come true! (I did burn my tongue on the hot choc)

First time diner at The Prince's in Pontypridd town. I had the Special Battered Cod. New places often make me anxious due to my mental health but thanks to my waitress Roz, it made me feel better. I enjoyed my food and the atmosphere. I was here this morning also. 100% would come back and full recommend the place. Thank you Roz ?

like stepping back to 1966.. the atmosphere and ambience are the *teamrooms of the past*, like you would see on downton abbey or upstairs & downstairs,,, there is a upstairs section, the staff are very friendly, a tea for two and various deals are great..., also the prices are very reasonable... the princes is very famous for bakery, i can see why its so popular with queues forming, probably the best welsh cakes in the town,, & the rhondda valley, tourists, vistors and daytrippers come to the restaurant just to see , the decor, furnishings,,,,thats why its normally very busy...

We had take away ? pie and ? cake to eat in the park, and thought they were absolutely amazing the steak and kidney pie was well filled and a nice size, the corned beef pie was great as well, the raspberry custard slice was amazing lovely raspberry taste, the strawberry custard tart was also amazing, and also a great price compared to other towns £2.60 a pie, the man who served me was not happy that someone had cut the strawberries on top of the tart instead of whole one's so gave me a free gluten free cannoli which he took great care to use different tongs etc due to it being gluten free. I was not bothered but his passion was not unnoticed. Great place you can tell this by the volume of customers, would definitely return.

Overrated place. It's a pity, as I love supporting local independent businesses. I've been meaning to buy food at Prince's for years, but their food hygiene rating was only a 3. I take this very seriously as I would only go to a place with a 3 rating if I have no choice. Today, shopping and walking in the area I noticed they now have a 5 on the good hygiene rating, so I gave it a go!Inside, it smelled of "burnt cheese toastie" and the lady serving us used her hands with no gloves to pick up the pancakes and fruit tartlet that we ordered. Her finger went through the tartlet and she got her finger full of cream... She had been taking cash payments etc with those hands, without washing them or sanitising them after. I thought it was a poor food hygiene practice, specially after COVID. The floor by the windows was dirty with pieces of paper/napkins/broken cake boxes? And other bits. Not impressed. Then I realised that there was a nother lady serving bread to other customers the same way using her hands without any paper bag, or picking tool or gloves. I don't think I will buy anything there again. The pancakes were nice, but I had to think it twice before biting on the tartlet... But I did and it was okay in taste. The pastry was average. Nothing special, overpriced. It's a pity as this establishment has been there for a long time, there is so much room for improvement and I think the owners should really look into the quality of their products and their customer service, and the overall hygiene and food handling techniques.

No visit to Pontypridd is complete without a visit to The Prince's.We have been regular visitors over the years and always enjoy popping in. The cafe has a well-stacked bakery section at the entrance which offers a variety of sweet treats, takeaway lunches and freshly baked bread. The cafe is split over two levels with a large dining area downstairs and two separate rooms upstairs which they open at busier times. This is a traditional cafe where the staff come over to your table to take your order. They offer everything from cooked breakfasts and lunches to afternoon teas. At Christmas time they offer Christmas lunches and have a variety of different Christmas cakes and desserts for collection. We particularly enjoy the pancakes, custard slices, Chelsea buns and Welsh cakes.
