The weather was terrible due to Storm Henck, but we were cosy, warm, and well catered for in the hotel. I love the cosy rooms, the real fire in the grate and the Christmas decorations looked wonderful. Everyone was very friendly and the staff so helpful. My only criticisms were a long wait for food though the staff apologised, and our room was too hot. However the food was superb. We had a wonderful one night break.

The Good The Bad and The UglyThe GoodThis was a bucket list wish trip. We've been wanting to get to see Portmeirion for 30 years and this was the year!!! We booked a room in the hotel and it included breakfast and we decided against having dinner there because as luck would have it the yearly Christmas craft and food festival was going on at the grounds. We enjoyed the fair and in the evening we sat in front of one of the fires. Husband reading and me knitting. Wonderful relaxing visit. The public rooms were old world gracious and cozy. The bar had a nice selection of drinks to enjoy. Our room was beautiful and we had two windows. One over the river and one up to the village. It was cold and rainy during our visit but believe it or not we came for this weather, being from Florida we kind of miss the cold. The BadFirst morning breakfast was a full Welsh breakfast and was good but the second day, the last day and the one we will remember was horrible. I got the salmon eggs Benedict and husband an omelet. His breakfast came out steaming, mine - I almost had to chip off the ice. Okay there wasn't ice on my eggs but there was not a degree of warmth over room temperature and the room was cold. Couldn't catch the eye of a server. They were too busy cleaning up getting the room set for lunch. I had one bite of my eggs and pushed them aside. I went to fix my cup of tea and there was only two sugar cubes in the sugar bowl. What???? Thank goodness the table next to us was empty so we just swapped out. No salt and pepper on the table either. You would think the servers would notice that the food hasn't been eaten and ask about it.The UglyFinally got the attention of our server. I told him my eggs were cold and inedible and if he had checked on us it could have been corrected during breakfast hours. (Breakfast was over by the way). He then got snippy and said there is no check because breakfast is included in the room. What the heck??? Just wish our last memory was better. Would I return?. That's a good question. The facility is beautiful, the room was great. Walking around the village was interesting but leaving hungry wasn't how I wanted to end our trip. Honestly if breakfast service is any indication of meals there, I'm glad we didn't spring for dinner.

We have been to the hotel on many occasions. The rooms we stay in are the village rooms. This year we have stayed in the same room as a previous year. The first time ever. The room had been modernized when we first stayed in the room, several years later the condition of the room is still excellent, with some of the furnishing having changed. The rooms are warm and inviting. This room has a kitchen with a fridge, bathroom with an excellent walk in shower. The evening meals in the hotel are special. They are beautifully presented. Five years later the meals are still fabulous, high end dining. Now another few years and the meals are still to the same high standard. The restaurant windows have all been replaced this year, (2023)Breakfasts are large. Choices of Welsh breakfast, various fish and eggs.I love walking around the woods, the village and taking photographs of the area. The time we visit is out of season, so the village is always quiet, the best time to go.There is a new tree walk since we last visited. Get a booklet from the main entry as this will tell you about each tree species.Yes they keep their standards high over all the times we have come here. The WiFi is very fast and free.

We have just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay in the Upper Pilot suite in the village.Lovely place and brilliant staff. The only downside for use was the dinner menu in the restaurant. The choice was limited, and if you are there for more than a couple days it does get a bit boring.

Friendly, helpful staff. Room was clean, warm and bright. A mixture of old and new, but that's what it should be. Main hotel area has lots of character. The best part was the evening meal. Simply outstanding. One of the best meals I have ever had. Thank you.Rooms: Out room had a great view and was very comfortable.Nearby activities: The village and walks.Walkability: It's hillyFood & drinks: Evening meal was outstanding, would give it 10 stars if I could.

Absolutely fantastic 3-day break. Stayed in The Watch House. The views are incredible. If you are in North Wales with some free time, it's more than worh a visit.Rooms: Watch House was perfect. Amazing views, underfloor heating, and spacious.Food & drinks: Ate in both the castle and hotel. 4 star at the castle and 5 star in the hotel. Breakfast in the hotel is very good with so many choices.

A beautiful location and pleasant rooms. We had some slight difficulties in locating our wedding party at first, but that's perhaps part of the experience. Staff were invariably pleasant and helpful; the electric buggies that transport guests around the complex were a nice touch, particularly in the rain! Well worth a return visit one day.
