Very enjoyable evening with engaging staff. Chef very knowledgeable and passionate about his food and wine, giving background to each course and advice on the wine to accompany. A gem of a restaurant on the high street.

Food extraordinary, but not in a good way.
Service attentive.
Booked this restaurant because it had received rave reviews, unfortunately, 2 of my guests found it difficult to eat most of the food served.
So much so that I decided we couldn?t face any more of these tastings and had to leave the restaurant.
We had already paid £294 as a deposit for four and I offered to pay a further £500.
The chef (owner) refused this offer and insisted that we pay £1000 in total!
I paid this amount under aggressive duress from the chef and his partner.
Hugely disappointing.

We should have checked the number on the door but once seated it was like we were taking part in an episode of Inside No.9.
In the space of the old butchers shop, four tables of two were individually introduced to the evenings concept by Head Chef whilst his Commis Chef meticulously laid plates.
It was a secret tasting menu with wine pairing and as a loosener we were offered a fizzy scrumpy cider, apparently made in the technique of Champagne. This needed to be nursed as the main wine wasn't due to commence until 8.30.
The two Chefs were busy at the pass preparing courses and each individual plate was dryly explained, thankfully to us all at once.
In my reviews I would normally describe the food but at Sosban the ingredients of each serving is vast and more complicated than a science lesson, however the taste and flavour of each course reached its conclusion worthy of his star.
Overall, the food was thoughtful and different, albeit smaller portions than the norm at such restaurants and one or two more courses would have been welcomed. The lively background music often competed with Head Chefs explanations and the evening ended quite abruptly, perhaps with the trademark twist we had expected at the start with an absence of coffee and petit fours.

This was the weirdest experience at a Michelin restaurant I've ever had. I must say that the food itself was phenomenal but everything else was just off. A huge pet peeve of mine is a lack of price transparency. We save hard to be able to afford such experiences and we should be granted with the ability to choose the price of our wine. There was no wine list and no pricing, just a recommendation by the head chef which I think is jarring and pretentious. It's such a tiny restaurant which could be intimate and warm but instead the atmosphere was awkward and quiet. The head chef tried to encourage diners to approach the pass and chat throughout plating but it all feels performative and the diners feel like we're inconveniencing him. I did however enjoy the story he told with each course.
Then we move onto the waiter. I keep repeating how awkward the whole experience was. The waiter had no interpersonal skills and no gift of the gab. He repeated the same closed questions to each table of diners and spoke so quietly we had to ask him to repeat himself so many times. If we ate too slowly he would hover. He was not attentive with drinks orders. However he did keep on coming to the table to move around the wine and water glasses on the table, constantly and unnecessarily moving them from where I'd set them down with my right hand over to the left hand side. I felt as if I was getting in his way. After finishing, paying the bill felt rushed and there was no desire to hang about and enjoy a night cap in such a weird atmosphere.
Such a shame that the service and atmosphere were so weird as the food was a delight.

Fantastic experience, very personal and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant team prepare food in the dining area with you. They talk and discuss the food whilst working and the passion is very clear to see. Food was spectacular and I had alot of fun ?

I found a hair in my dessert. Because I know how that can happen, and it was obviously from the chefs head. I didn't say anything while eating. After we finished I discretely told the waiter, whom told the chef. And the chef instead of apologizing, started questioning the waiter asking ?did you see her take the hair out of the food??I was willing AND DID pay full price. But I didn't get so much as an apology from anyone there. Very disappointed, as I would expect a chef to take such matters more seriously. The food was good, I have had better at Michelin guide restaurants in the area though.

No menu and it is an incredible experience. It started with an astonishing good dish and got better with every course. The whole experience is a unique blend of restaurant and theatre.

An excellent evening. Steve and Claire were on fine form. Eclectic and sumptuous food with a delightfully fresh air of f*ck you to the haute cuisine establishment. Delicious and well observed wine pairings. We've already asked them when we can come back for more somewhat wonky and fermented treats in the spring. Top notch for those who like something innovative.

An absolutely top notch evening. No menu & no particular wine list, just enjoy everything. Just 8 covers when we dined there which makes for an intimate dining experience.

Entry is through an anonymous door leading to a dining room with four tables, so 8 -16 covers (8 the night we were there), It's booked up months in advance, doubtless because of the Michelin star. While we settled in my beloved had a Monmouth 'cham0agne'and I had a Welsh gin and tonic. The fizz was the better choice I lost count of whether we had 8 or9 course; they're all prepared in front of the diners. They are tiny portions of often exquisite and unexpected combinations. Dried cod, skin, fermented vegetables, lamb tail were among the ingredients. All were served on unique, mainly handmade made, small pottery dishes. A memorable evening, not least for the price- nearly £500 for two including the wine pairings (with 5 of the dishes). To be honest, I wasn't convinced by most of the wines. It was an interesting experience, but I wouldn't repeat it. I'm probably too old and conservative for it!
