Stopped in again today at the Penbryn Hotel after being in the mountains. My go to place in Llanfairfechan. Friendly welcoming staff, it's well worth a little walk up the hill, recommend.

This is a review from a tourist's point of view. Llanfairfechan currently (Oct '22) has 3 pubs a short stroll from each other, on narrow streets with limited parking, a 15 minute walk uphill from the promenade. As a visitor, I was hoping for some pub grub, a tasty pint of real ale (preferably local) and a bit of character. A friendly welcome was to be had in all 3 pubs and they must be doing something right for the locals to survive in these difficult times. A common factor was the cheap price for a pint.Called in for a drink on a wet Saturday afternoon (too wet to visit the beer garden). We were first visitors of the day (landlord said he doesn't open until 4pm) and bar area was mostly in darkness. As a hotel, thought there might be food, no menus on show, but didn't like the look of the food the landlord was eating at the bar. I couldn't see any bitter, so chose a pint of Guiness. My wife fancied a whiskey and the option was Famous Grouse or nothing. Isn't there a distillery down the road!?! I think they expect their bingo nights to bring in the business - certainly nothing on offer to attract the tourist.
