“I’m so impressed with the animal welfare standards at this store. I visited yesterday and was in the process of adopting a hamster for my daughter. The hamster had been cleared by the vet, but on closer inspection the member of staff noticed a very slight discharge from the hamster’s nose, and we didn’t go ahead. I’m extremely impressed that it was noted and that such small animals are treated by a vet with the associated loss of profit. I had assumed that a large chain would just put them down, and I’m so heartened to find that isn’t the case. It would have been so easy to continue with the adoption and pass the vet cost onto me! The hamster’s welfare was priority and that has changed my opinion of large pet shops.
They were also well informed about the size of cage needed and care requirements, and passed this info on to me (we already have an extra large cage, but I am happy to know that contrary to what is reported they didn’t try to sell me a too small cage).”
