I always pop in when I visit Hay-on-Wye. It?s a small local business that serves excellent food. Breakfast sandwiches are cooked fresh and always tasty. Very warm and friendly welcome every time I visit. I tackled ?The Big Earl? breakfast panini this morning. Excellent choice and served brilliantly. Definitely recommend dropping in any time of the day for sit in or takeaway. Always will return!

Staff were really friendly and so knowledgeable about coeliac disease. The food was amazing and there were plenty of options for gluten free. Thank you!

Excellent bacon & egg sandwiches. Properly cooked, runny egg, soft white bread. Tasty toasted tea cake. Best coffee and proper strong tea. Would highly recommend.

This is a lovely café situated in a small alleyway called The Backfold, which cuts through from the High Street to the front main entrance to the Castle and the main car park. If you're looking for a good British breakfast or brunch, or lunch, this is the best in Hay. Homemade, order by choosing from the outside board, choose a table number and then enter the café. It's tiny with limited seating but there's quite a few tables outside with umbrellas for protection against the elements. They do close early; about 2, but great food at great prices.

Food was good on the whole, quality of meat was premium standard, reflected in the price.
No option other than fried eggs, which felt awkward when we asked for scrambled egg...
Obviously named the Sandwich Cellar but some customers had rolls. Personally I would have preferred my bacon on a roll.
The wives GF roll was frozen and had to be taken back. A generous reimbursement was given. This was a result of the staff being completely overwhelmed by what appeared to be regular day to day trade.
Coffee was lovely, but very very small.
On the whole ok, probs wouldn't go back though.

The food was average. Milk in the coffee was heated so much it formed a skin on top.

Have tried all the cafés in Hay but keep coming back to this one. In our opinion, it's the best. Haven't put a ? against food because we only have coffee.
