Stopped right outside today and was pleasantly surprised to see empty tables inside. Every time I?ve visited Hay it?s packed to the rafters. It?s lovely to see dogs welcome sign too.
I ordered at the counter with a very friendly young lady that enquired about my small dog, whilst she served me.
We had Americano, latte and shared a delicious piece of carrot cake this morning.
The hot food coming out from kitchen looked superb also.
The toilet facilities were spotless. Nice to see a baby change station too. Would certainly return when I?m next in Hay.

Very expensive for what it is, disappointing food, dirty tables and poor service.

We ordered 4 things, they got 1 wrong and forgot about another. They then corrected it but it took a while.
I had beef ragu and it was a bit bland with large chunks of unchewable fat.
Everyone else thought their food was ok but nothing special.
It was also very expensive with tables left dirty for a while after customers left

This food is to die for!! Loveliest owners who work so hard to make it amazing and special.
Thank you!

Really good food and a lovely breakfast - best bacon I've had in many years.
Nice.

When I first crossed the threshold, I was prepared to feign polite enthusiasm, as any vaguely superior city-dweller might when slumming it in the countryside. What a mistake that was. This place, dear reader, does not merely serve food ? it delivers epiphanies.
The open sandwiches alone could shake the foundations of a jaded Parisian?s worldview. Each slice ? nay, each altar of bread ? is a meticulously composed tableau where every ingredient seems to have lived its life in preparation for this exact moment. A true haiku of flavour and texture.
And then? the beans. Oh, the beans. Humble bowls at first glance, yet of unexpected, almost theological depth. They weren?t simply cooked ? they had communed with fire, shared in its wisdom, and delivered it to us in a velvet silence cloaked in sauce.
The Granary does not just feed ? it reconciles the soul with the plate. One almost feels compelled to apologise to the rest of Britain?s cafés on its behalf.
I shall return. Inevitably. But not too often: one must preserve one?s myths.

Best. Fried. Breakfast. Ever. Do not missed on the beans, they are heaven (and they are normally the item on a breakfast I skip). Also, the cappuccino is Italian-standard.

A nice place for a coffee and a piece of cake.
Edited 2 years later:
We're visiting the area again so decided to come back here for a coffee and hot chocolate ?

We stumbled upon this cafe during our brief visit to Hay on Wye recently and were very happy to find that it is both child and dog friendly. They have a wonderful selection of cakes which were very tasty, and the service was excellent. They really went out of their way to help find something suitable for my 11 month old son to eat. Additionally they provide a changing mat and spare nappies which I thought was such a lovely and thoughtful touch. I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area!

Good food, but due to it being very busy. Slow service.

Service a little bit slow to start...but food did come quickly...and it was really good.
Vegan falafel salads, chips to share and a drink.
A choice of vegan cake other than flapjack would have elevated my score.
