Oscars Bistro is a lovely eatery in Hay on Wye. Their burgers are really good. The cafe is not dog friendly, but they do have some seating outside that is dog friendly. The place is quite popular, so we had a bit of a wait on our visit. Well worth it though.

I ordered a quiche with side salads. The quiche base pastry and eggy middle were decent, but my main issue with it was the size of the onion chunks. They were too large and got in the way of tasting the other flavours. The side salads were disappointing. It consisted of pasta salad (under-seasoned), potato salad (just ok), and coleslaw (tragically, too much mayo/dressing - I love mayo, so for me to feel that something has too much mayo is saying something.)
The service was decent, no complaints about the service at the till, but it was confusing re: cutlery. A reminder to patrons as they are paying to grab cutlery before they sit down would be beneficial.
The place itself is charming, owing to the nice decor and old-timey feeling of the building.

I can only speak for myself and can?t speak too highly about our own experience here. Quite Frankly the Carrot Cake was the BEST I?ve EVER Tasted and can?t recommend the place enough.

Popped in for breakfast before heading up to the Hay festival. Nice simple menu with enough choices for everyone. Staff very friendly and food very nice. Lots of table space and clean toilets. Very centrally located in the town centre.

I personally have been visiting Oscars Bistro for 20 plus years as we live in Herefordshire not too far away. The food has always been lovely & fresh & I have never once been disappointed. Our last visit was yesterday during the busiest time of year, the Hay Festival. We were told we would have a short wait for our food, which is more than understandable at such a busy time. The owner was lovely & gave us free coffee whilst we waited. Thanks Oscars? we will be back soon!

I had the most awful meal there today made by someone who clearly can?t cook well and doesn?t taste what they cook. Lacking in seasoning and flavour of any kind it. Supposedly Moroccan lamb it was a bowl of chopped veg (namely undercooked carrots and peppers) in tinned tomatoes with a few pieces of apricot chucked in and six small pieces of tough dry lamb. The rice was fine. This was also served with over cooked frozen peas! Why? This place used to be a top eatery. Not any more. And not cheap. I don?t Mind paying for good food. My husbands beef curry was a bit more palatable but really not great as the beef was tough and tasteless. Bad cooking. Won?t bother again.

Always good value, often open, reliable with variation of menu. It would be good to see the veggie sausages (potato) replaced with actual protein ones, plenty around now. But we like and often return to

pretty mid. the panini?s came out first. there was melted cheese and ham on the side of one of the tuna mayonnaise panini. two of the small plates were extremely late arriving. we had to ask where the other small plates were - one was still being made and the other they had mistakenly given to another table and was now out of stock.
overall it was disappointing and the food hygiene was questionable.
