Went here of an evening since I wanted a drink. Immediately set eyes on a rough looking character, who had been taking something, since his eyes were as big as saucers. Bar staff looked on as if nothing was happening! Man started to become angry and aggressive at me for no apparent reason! Insulted me because, ?He didn?t like the way I looked.? Terrible experience and I was terrified. Bar staff overheard everything, but were just as obnoxious! I will never put myself in that position again, where I was GROSSLY violated by a coke-head, whilst comments were laughed at by the horrible bar staff, I HAVE to give one star, but I really wouldn?t choose to give that! One word - OBNOXIOUS!

Rude violent staff members 1st visit to premises And will be the last only visit this place if you wish to be attacked by staff members and locals who will then call the police to have you arrested by the local constabulary who in turn are useless

We had a fabulous few hours at nearby Parc Pentallta and whilst there we got talking to a local lady, who enthusiastically promoted the local area. This was our first visit to this part of Wales, so we asked her for recommendations on somewhere to eat Sunday lunch. The lady suggested the Harp Inn in Hengoed so we googled the telephone number to check availability and luckily the pub had space for us. Our first impressions of the traditional family friendly pub was that it was the hub of the community (TVs to stream live sports, a dart board & live music) with down to earth staff. We received an outstanding welcome and the pub was tastefully decorated. The pub was very busy (popular) and was spotlessly clean. My partner and I decided to order 3 courses and we ordered just the main for our young son (he would struggle to eat 3 courses). I ordered garlic mushrooms for starters, the chicken and stuffing roast dinner for my main and cheese cake for dessert. My partner selected the fish cake for his starters, the beef dinner for his main and apple crumble with custard for dessert. Our son had the chicken dinner for his main, but tasted both our starters and desserts. The roast dinners were amazing, served with a great variety of vegetables, roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding, homemade gravy and a selection of sauces. The food was fabulous and incredible value for money. We will definitely return again, because there was a fantastic menu including vegetarian and children meals, as well as steaks, burgers, mixed grills, curries and so on.
