Visited the Parkway for a catch up with family and friends as we have done in the past having always appreciated the warm and friendly atmosphere it provided
How ever, this visit proved far from friendly or warm the lounge area was notably quiet with fewer people than we had seen on previous visits and without its feature fire being lit was definitely far from warm, something other guests also commented on.
The experience was made worse when ordering food and drinks being met with a less than interested and quite curt member of staff who clearly looked unhappy at having to be there.
Overall this visit left us feeling disappointed and saddened as the experience was far from what it once was Hopefully this was just one of "those days" as the venue itself is in great location with beautifully kept grounds and although this visit was not the best we would be minded to try again in the future hoping this was a one off experience.

The bar staff are very hospitable, Rhys was amazing and entertaining throughout the night and very professional ( spoke some Welsh too)
If you?re looking for a decent spa and gym however, this place isn?t it. The gym is very dated and cramped, it has barely any machines in there so you can?t train certain muscle groups (only one leg machine). The hot tub wasn?t free the whole time we stayed which is a shame, I think there should be a time limit as we noticed people spending sometimes 2hours in the hot tub/jaquzzi.
Overall I don?t think the spa and rooms are worth the money we paid, but it?s not entirely terrible either.
This place would benefit from a modernisation and more gym equipment.
3 stars for the bar staff, made the get away very enjoyable.
Rooms: Dated

Arrival was not great. The car park had zero lighting and signage was poor, so if you are unfamiliar with the layout, you are just left guessing which way you should be going.
The room was advertised as a deluxe double, which was pushing it a bit. It was nice, but nothing special. Everything seemed clean and in good condition, although quite dated.
Service was efficient and friendly on all counts. Food was somewhere between average and good on both price and quality (lounge bar).
Pool was a bit small (around 15m length) and got congested easily even at 06.30. The jacuzzi was not working. Sauna was nice and hot, but no water to add to the stones (of which there were very few). Steam room was cool rather than hot but still very humid and nicely fragranced. There was no one available at the spa desk to let us out of the facility and walking round to try and find someone was unsuccessful. Myself and another guest had to wait until someone opened the door from the outside to let us out.
Overall, it's a perfectly acceptable place to stay, but for £120/night for a single guest, not including breakfast (+£15), I would have expected more.

This was our second overnight stay here. Rooms are lovely but checkout times are 11am, and at 10.30 as me and my partner wer "celebrating" our first night away form the children as husband and wife, we wer disturbed by someone (assuming a cleaner) just walking in our room without knocking saying hello. I found this extremely rude and invasive. They should wait untill after checkout times to clean rooms. Also the jacuzzi was not working. 8.3.25

Staff are lovely but the gym is from the 80s and very minimal equipment. Extremely worn out, out of date equipment, even with the space as minimal as it is, there's no excuse for the lack of equipment and how out of date it is. 4* hotel with a barbell that hasn't even got weight plates that match, definitely an area of the hotel that's been left behind.

I attended a lovely event last night at the Parkway Hotel. The buffet was amazing.
However, I (and many others in my party) was very disappointed with the lack of lighting in the car park areas. It was pitch black and I felt it dangerous to females on their own. I needed to use my phone torch to light my way. Not even the hotel's signage was lit up, making it difficult to see from the road.
Also, I asked the bar tender if he had 0% lager, to which he said no. I later found out there were alternative 0% drinks available, but he'd failed to point this out to me. I'd call that a lack of opportunistic upselling which resulted in less money being taken for my purchase.
Besides that, the evening went without fault.

Room was fine, bed comfy
Spa and gym were good what I'd expect from somewhere like this. They were also clean which was great!
It all went wrong with the food... A group of us went for food at the bar, we recieved 5 cold meals, these were all sent back to be heated and came back mildly warm, also included missing items. We were given some freebies that sort of made up for it! I am guessing this was the exception
I was there for work so also had the coffee (amougst the worst I've had) and cold buffet which was passable again I've had better.
Breakfast was passable, I had warm (not hot) eggs benedict which was OK.

Tired in a lot of aspects. Gym poorly equipped, service is minimum wage standard, food is ok.
Fire place, no logs after 8ish due to H&S apparently.
Receptionist really looks after you though, thanks.

We booked a spa treatment and afternoon tea.
When we arrived we were greeted warmly and given a small tour and our bathrobes.
Upon getting changed and entering the pool area we found that there were large holes in our bathrobes and the jacuzzi was closed for maintenance.
We sat for awhile and then asked about drinks and were offered coffee (made with a kettle and granules) or tea or water. We asked if it was possible to get a hot chocolate for one of us and the lady was unsure. But she came back with one to make up for the jacuzzi for being closed. Along with biscuits.
We tried to swim in the pool but it was too cold for anything other than a quick jaunt. Many guests were complaining about it, even ones who said they had been visiting for 30 years.
The jacuzzi finally got sorted after an hour or so but it wasn't really warm enough.
The sauna was nice followed by a plunge in the cold pool for one of us.
After awhile we went for our massage which was pleasant enough. Nice and relaxing. Finished with unexpected but invigorating hot towels.
Afterwards we went for our cream tea. This was also pleasant though way too much food. Luckily we could take some home with us. The pots of tea and coffee were substantial.
We did have a lovely relaxing time doing nothing. It was nice to wind down.
It's the little touches that could have been made, like being warned about the jacuzzi and cold cold pool. And bathrobes without big holes in, that would have made it nicer. Everywhere needed to be warmer. By the time we got to our tea we were chilly.
The spa was clean and everyone was polite and pleasant. The relaxing areas were nice and bright. So overall it was a nice experience. But it could have been better. And if you go when it's cold, be warned.

Went for an evening bar meal with two friends on Thursday the 19th of December.
Car park was in complete darkness . Had to use our phones for light. An accident waiting to happen.
Staff were lovely as usual.
My one friend had the curry my other friend and myself had the burger .
Burgers were fine.
My friend curry was awful . She said it was the dark meat of the chicken and not the breast .
She only ate the rice and sauce .
She complained and was given refund .
Thank you for a no fuss refund .

If you like cold pool cold jacuzzi cold coffee and raw bacon sandwiches that take over 30 minutes to come when nobody?s in the restaurant
Usual story staff don?t care

Christmas lunch in the function room did not suit us at all. Very crowded with tables close together. Difficult for mum with mobility issues to mobilise through the tables and we did not enjoy the experience or food. Go there regularly so very disappointed.

Parkway
Not my cup of tea. Too impersonal. Outwardly friendliness of staff seemed forced in comparison with the 3 star hotels I stayed in in Wimbledon, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Stroud.
Seems very popular despite this. The lounge and bar areas were permanently (over)crowded. Main restaurant closed except Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Bar food (the alternative) not very good and - at least the night I wanted to eat there - too noisy: it seemed to be party night, with a choir of Father Christmas's singing to a packed house. I had to retreat to the quiet of my room.
I didn't like the long dark badly lit hallways. Why do LED lights have to be switched on (too late) as you walk past? Bulb replacementments surely cost more than the amount of electricity saved. And, though I generally like hand soap in the bathroom, this doesn't apply to supposedly ecological oatmeal soap.
In other respects, the bathroom was fine, with good lighting, good mirrors and, for oldies like me, a useful hand grip for climbing into and out of the bath/shower. I also liked the presence of a good steam iron and (albeit rickety) ironing board.
Though can't speak for the English breakfast, the continental one was good, with a good choice of fruit and unusual yoghurts. I had to pay extra for my cappuccino though.

The hotel retains its old-world charm, with some elements still unchanged back since my early stays over 20 years ago. However, it is in dire need of a sympathetic modernisation to bring it up to contemporary standards.
The bedding is subpar, with lumpy pillows and mattresses that often collapse, feeling the springs. The overall atmosphere feels dated and neglected.
The spa has seen some improvements and is notably cleaner, but it still falls short of expectations. The new loungers, while an upgrade, are poorly designed and prevent guests from lying on their fronts?a significant oversight by whoever selected them. The Jacuzzi area remains problematic, with mould still visible on the tiles behind it.
On a positive note, breakfast is excellent, providing a bright spot in the overall experience. However, the decision to eliminate the carvery is baffling. This hotel has long been known for its carvery, and its removal?following the discontinuation of the à la carte AA Rosette-standard menu?feels like a step in the wrong direction. Even the staff appear confused by this decision, which could significantly impact the hotel?s appeal.
In my opinion, a change in management is necessary to breathe new life into this establishment and bring in fresh, forward-thinking ideas.

Great dance venue, just a pity that I had to walk 60 yards to get a real ale!
