Cardiff is bereft of bookshops. Considering the size of the city it is unbelievable that there are so few quality bookshops. Waterstones in the Hayes is the largest and most obvious and there is a Blackwells next to the Union for students use, but other than these there is very little. Personally, I've never enjoyed visiting a branch of Waterstones. The choice is eminently predictable and I don't want to buy two books and get a third free. They're not crisps, we're talking about literature here. So why the rant about lack of good bookshops? Oh right, yes, well good job Oxfam! It doesn't make up for the problem, but having a good, well organised second-hand bookshop is fantastic for the city. It's the kind of place where you'll find an old favourite, but a little too organised to find an unexpected gem. Some of the space is taken up selling other charitable goods, freedom food and the like. I rather wish they just sold more books.

Whoever suggested opening an Oxfam shop just for books deserves a medal. This is my favourite bookshop ever. I don't even look for books anywhere else now. I have very often spent my bus fare in this shop while waiting for the bus I was meant to get to uni. The thing I love about this store is that even though the books have all been pre-owned, they are great condition, and the covers aren't ruined by the price stickers that most charity shops use. And everything's arranged so clearly (and properly!), classics have their own section, and there's a nice little shelf of really old, rare and first edition books that always excites me. An absolute must for students and booklovers, and also for parents as the children's section is great. I feel I should also point out how conveniently close it is to the train station. Clearly an excellent place to grab a book for your journey.

I first came across an Oxfam shop that exclusively stocked books in Bristol, and thought it was a brilliant idea. I am glad to see that the concept has been replicated across the country as it save s me a fortune! I'm passionate about books and If I were to buy all of my books new, I would be bankrupt in no time! This branch of Oxfam Books is pretty well stocked. As with all the other Oxfam shops, it is well manned, and professionally put together. I have however got to admit to preferring the Pdsa for books, as they always have a good selection and the prices are half what they charge at Oxfam. Nevertheless, I buy a fair amount f books from here, and I'm grateful that they put them in alphabetical order! (Unlike the Pdsa).
