We stayed for the weekend of the Dolly Parton tribute act. We had a great time, but with a few disappointments. Good things first. The room, which was a signature room in Llewelyn hall, was lovely with a walk in shower , a comfortable bed and plenty of storage space. It was cleaned daily to a very good standard. The food was the usual Warners buffets but was very good, especially the breakfasts. The staff were fantastic. Very helpful at all times. The entertainment was wonderful. Benjamin Moss on the Friday was fantastic. Great singing and great jokes. On Saturday, the Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers tribute acts were very good. On Sunday, the entertainment team put on a great show of songs from the musicals. The bad points. The lighting for the show on Saturday was appalling. There was never a spotlight on the acts and when Dolly went into the audience she walked out into the dark. Nobody could see her. It was very amateurish and must have really annoyed the act. On the Friday afternoon, after going in the pool I was walking back to the changing room, along the corridor between the pool and the locker rooms when I slipped on the wet floor and crashed onto the floor. My wife nearly had a heart attack. The employee on reception saw it on the cctv and came running through together with a colleague and managed to get me into the locker room and made sure there was nothing broken. Other employees in the locker room were hinting that I wasn?t the first person to slip on the wet floor in the last few weeks. I was surprised I wasn?t asked to fill out an accident form, although later that day I went to reception and asked for a form to fill out and the duty manager filled it out on my behalf. I remembered later that at Alvaston Hall where we have stayed before, there is some slip proof matting laid out in the corridor to ensure that nobody slips. I think this should be the case at Boddlewyddan, as if people are slipping it is only a matter of time before somebody is seriously injured. Particularly, given the average age of the guests at Warner hotels. It would be much cheaper than paying out a compensation claim. Overall we had a good time and we probably will return to Boddlewyddan but not use the pool unless these is safety matting installed.

The location is good and the buildings and grounds are well kept. The staff are generally friendly and helpful but some of the kitchen and dining room staff can get a little moody due to the stress that they are obviously under. Some days they are short staffed and therefore really busy but their efforts are not helped by a lack of equipment e.g. toast racks & tea spoons. The entertainment was first class throughout our stay and made up for the minor problems during dining. Overall the break was okay but with a little more effort and better equipment could have been so much better.

Typical warners, same ole same ole. It may be called a castle, but in fact it?s like staying in the rear servants quarters, you wouldn?t know your staying in a castle. Apparently they have now taken over ownership from council, so things may change, but at the moment, everything is housed in normal buildings in the rear part of the castle. The main entrance is like turning up to the back door. The corridors are plain and boring, all week there are laundry baskets stored in the hallways. The rooms were the usual layout, though there was little storage with only a wardrobe & 3 small draws. No good for a couple & weeks clothing. Our room was only equipped with towels for 1, yet there were 2 of us. We did get this corrected but we had same problem later in the week too. Parking was the usual restricted, so if you go off site, be prepared to have no space when you return. They only a buffet restaurant or market kitchen as they refer, so no table service available. The service we found slow and inattentive, though staff were generally obliging if you sort them out. I must congratulate them though, they did always keep the food station topped up at breakfast, and omelettes & pancakes were prepared fresh, unlike many other warners. The food offering is the same as usual, so if you?ve been to others, it?s same again for evening dining. Like being at a Toby carvery without the choice. Their non carvery options never appear very appealing. The main entertainment room is a long narrow room, and they seemed to reserve too many tables for disabled or VIP (you have to pay additionally for this), and over the weekend we found no seats close to the dance floor. The entertainment was typical warners, and two of their tribute acts weren?t worth listening too, so the entertainment was a waste of time for on this occasion. There also was no waiter bar service, you had to go to the bar yourself again unless you?d paid for VIP. The swimming pool was a hexagon shape, which got difficult to swim in at times, and the changing rooms were tiny. There was lunch available in their mulberry lounge, and they offered a £10 lunch & drink offering. This seemed good value, however on our first try, I found a piece of plastic pot in my pizza (stamped OPEN), so this was somewhat off putting, and once pointed out only a sorry was offered. It?s in a fairly accessible position in North Wales just of the A55, so it was quite quick to get to places like Llandudno, Conwy, Carnaethon and Snowdonia if you like to get out and about. Overall typical Warners, clean with no thrills, mediocre service and basic quality food.

I have returned, today, from a Weekend break at The Bodellwyddan Hotel, my first vist to a Warner Hotel and based on this occasion will NOT be my last, the Hotel is fabulous and the surroundings are stunning, however it's the staff that make your stay special, every single person does their utmost to make you feel at home, the atmosphere is relaxed and you have all you need for your stay, what really excelled was the entertainemnt laid on every evening, absolutely fabulous, first class shows booked to ensure you enjoy the evening, my biggest surprise was our last night ( last night) the Staff presented a show entitled the Musicals - well what a show, SUPERB !, please pass on my thanks to all your team for their efforts and let them know they are relly appreciated, THANK YOU, Stephen

Lovely venue, plenty to see and do in the castle, fab woodland walks and interesting grounds and wildlife. Great selection of breakfast, dinner and excellent service from the well trained staff. Comfortable room with everything you need, close to amenities and evening entertainment. Lovely pool and spa, all in all a very well run Warner establishment.

I booked a particular room which we had had before several times, because it had a jacuzzi in one of the tower. I paid extra to choose the room. But when we got there the jacuzzi had been taken out and roll top bath put in it's place. Since I cannot get in or out of a bath this was not use to me. The bathroom had been refitted with a decent walk in shower so I was OK. I should have been warned about this to avoid disappointment. I had been on a cocktail making session at Heythrop and really enjoyed it so I booked one again at Bodelwyddan, but now it seems you have to have at least 6 people for it to run, so it got cancelled. I had been warned by reading the Trip Advisor reviews that all the food was a buffet style now. For us that was not a problem but it obviously was for guests with mobility problems. The food was fine if a bit dull, especially as I am vegetarian and the choice was pretty poor a couple of the evenings. However the holiday was made by the glorious weather we had so we could really explore and enjoy the lovely gardens. The staff were friendly and helpful and I think I would go again but only in the good weather.

The hotel entertainment staff tell you that unless you book your cabaret table you may not be able to sit together despite the hotel accepting your group booking, so they want £50 per couple this is blackmail, how low can they stoop my advice is give warners the elbow as there are other hotel offering better value for money without pushing add ons down your throat I give bodelwyddan castle zero marks you have been warned
