We regularly shop at Stermat as you can get most household things you need in one place - and at a reasonable price. As for the cafe - despite so many terrible reviews, the place always seems pretty busy. We stopped off around 1pm on a Saturday and were told that there was a 30 minute wait - but probably less. As we'd just driven 4.5 hours from South Wales, we didn't really mind. I ordered a cheese and pickle toastie and my Husband opted for the Cottage Pie (which was out on the hot plate). On the basis that it was just sitting there ready to be served up, he asked if he could have it straight away; only to be told 'no'. The food turned up 45 minutes later (yes, the same pie that had been staring at us!). We could see that everyone had been waiting ages - all still wearing their coats and hats as there seemed to be very little heat in the huge chasm of the seating area. On reflection, the place was probably only 40% - which begs the question as to why they should provide so many tables when they clearly can't cope. Better they halve the menu and capacity. The staff were pleasant enough - but it did rile us a little that one was playing with a slinky behind the counter (I kid you not) when she could have been clearing and cleaning tables. As it happens, the food was fine - the chips in particular were fab. I get the impression that the people who own/run the cafe really don't give a monkeys about any complaints as the customers just keep coming. If they cared, then they would have made an effort to address the problems, but judging by the comments on here - its a case of take the money and run.

has seriously gone down hill from last time we visited, sausages were strange tasting, everything plonked on plate, bigger plates are needed, bacon was cold, and loads of fat on them, not once did i see front of house wash hands after handling different things, and anyone would think its a fashion show there, also shop floor staff looked miserable there.

We dropped by the Bangor branch to purchase some compost as only live half a mile away. A pleasant young man outside told us to tell the casher what we wanted, bring back the receipt and he would carry the bag into our car. I took a screenshot of the bag of compost which was bizarrely called 'Happy compost' and headed for the till. We encountered the most rudest miserable arrogant woman you could ever expect to be working in retail! She was very abrupt, raised her voice at us when she could not read the screenshot (which was very clear), and made us feel that we were a nuisance! Now we know why the place has abad reputation! The young man working outside in the cold in his bare hands was a total gent! I would rather travel further afield in future!

Where to start! We popped in for food as a family of 4 adults. After waiting an 1hr and 20 mins two meals came out, 20 mins later the 2nd two arrived then 10mins after that the side of chips. The omelette came burnt however my 83year old father that needs to eat due to medication had to eat his food. My 81 year old mother ordered soup of the day which was supposed to be potato and leek. However tasted nothing like it which she refused to eat. I ordered the cheese and ham panini after waiting 1hr and 40 mins a server came to the table with a toasties and said they were out of paninis. I complained and was told that's all they had!! My husband asked to speak to the manager. The manager was rude and said well you ate it. She wouldn't offer a refund didn't care that the food was sub standard and honestly had no sympathy toward my parents and their medical conditions. I must admit the only thing that was worth eating was the stacked burger but by the time it arrived the coffee was cold!!. I for one will not be eating there again and nor will any of our friends and family. Disappointing and honestly the worst manager there.

We often visit the garden centre because it has a variety of tools home decor and plants? on this particular Sunday we thought we?d try the cafe? What a massive contrast and disappointment to the shop! Firstly, despite the wall mounted radiators, there was a constant draft chilling us to the bone, we ordered promptly but had to wait for 20 minutes before we were served tomato & basil soup, which tasted like tinned spaghetti hoops, a gammon, egg chips & peas, in which my son need a chainsaw to cut the gammon, the egg was like rubber the chips were hard and the peas were colourless tasteless & dry, my other son said the scampi was bearable but agreed the chips were not cooked enough and he left the peas, the food is reminiscent of 70?s school dinners, cheap and nasty the staff resembled zombies probably due to lack of customer satisfaction as I could see many unhappy people and a lot of wastage! Get your act together and if you want to own a cafe serve the customers good food please!! The toilets are unsanitary ? avoid!!

A typical garden centre, so many departments and not many indoor plants. Out door plant section is good.

Very rude staff who seem annoyed to be asked any assistance etc then the illegal practice of refusing a refund (offering a credit note only) I had only purchased 5 minutes earlier but the item wasn't suitable-point blank refusing to refund and with a sneering attitude said go speak to manager if you don't like it etc! I do not recommend you use this Stermat chain of shops unless you've no other option.

Love it here, great prices, lots of variety, however the coffee lets it down as it's not nearly strong enough. Skimping on coffee is a false economy!

This cafe should be closed down, right now. Staff are ignorant, sullen and slovenly. Food, when it finally arrives, is awful - cold, tasteless, chucked on a plate and plate plonked on your table. All condiments and sauces were empty, no clean cutlery available - don't waste your time and money here!
