Great car park as a starting point to walk to the reservoir, simple walk all the way there but the views down the valley are absolutely gorgeous and once you get to the reservoir the amount of water is very impressive, lovely remote walk

Great car park, nice picnic tables there.Long drive down very narrow road to get to it, I didnt mind as I'm used to that kind of driving. If you are from the city and can't reverse, stay home as there's a 80% chance you will be reversing on this road. The walk up to the lyn and onto the bothy is a nice walk, I stopped for lunch in the bothy and then went right up to where the path meets the Dragons back .Have fun.

In the heart of the Black Mountains, there is no mobile signal for miles around, even on the ridges and summits. The neat, cared for car park is well located for a multitude of hikes but they are not well sign posted, so make sure you have a good map (and GPS on poor visibility days). The weather can turn quite quickly. There is a fair amount of parking but it does fill up on fine days with lots of people on the trails at all hours. Roads narrow, windy and high hedgerowed with few passing points at times so 20mph not unusual. Two picnic benches - no bins or facilities. We had a water filtration system and were grateful for it on long hot day hikes as there are plenty of streams. Not for inexperienced hikers.

The car park itself is great, good location for walks up the mountains or to the reservoir and plenty of space. However, I would advise avoiding going through the woods to the west of the car park. I planned a looped route (using OS maps app) up to Pen y Gadair Fawr, across to Pen Twyn Mawr and down through the woods but on multiple occasions, the footpaths that showed on the OS map wasn't actually there or was just a break in the trees that we basically had to crawl down. All the main tracks in the woods just go horizontal to each other so don't lead you back down to the road and we followed a footpath that took us to a Welsh Water site with a warning for "no unauthorised personnel". Not a complaint of the car park itself but wanted to warn other people planning routes in this area.

Views from the reservoir are amazing. Worth the walk. Be wary of sheep and leave no trace.

long winded road to get there but it's really pretty

Clean and tidy. Chat with Clive, a Beacons park ranger keeping an eye on the area. Great for access to both Chwarel y fan or Pen y Gadair fawr ridge points or a stroll to the reservoir. Please take all rubbish home with you.

Ample parking, could use additional signage for the walks as its easy to go off path and wind up in someone's field but stunning views in good weather.

Well cared for and picturesque. Brilliant walks on and off the beaten track. Rivers, falls, forest and mountains. Clean and tidy car park and picnic area

Plenty of space in a gravel and grass kind of way. Approach roads are alarmingly narrow so you need to be OK with that. Picnic tables on site.
